Just wait till 2008, when they run Windows (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061230/BUSINESS01/612300331).

There's nothing sexy about having to reboot your Mustang on the side of the freeway. ;)

the car isnt run off the computer, just means you can call people, surf the internet and all the other stuff in your car. Unless i skipped that part where you can program the car to drive itself.

It does sound kind of interesting though. Hopefully it won't lead to people driving and surfing... that may lead to very bad things -_-;;

rofl i thought you were serious until i read the article, my bad. Still interesting though would be good for business people who are on the road alot and dont have access to a computer but i bet that some people will try to surf the net while driving like idiots.

Interesting that you point this out because it wouldn't be the first time a computer would cripple a Ford. I vividly recall trouble with their high-dollar GT40. If Windows Automotive has anything to do with Ford's immobilizer system, it's going to be disgusting.

Whatever Ford may want you to call it, read up. IMO, Americans and Europeans need to outsource all things electrical to an Asian country.

Good article. It's a shame how even the highest priced American cars are no more reliable than ones costing a tenth of the price.

Yeah, it's totally acceptable to pay $1,600,000 on a car and not expect everything to work right.

where does it say he paid 1.6 Million dollars for it?

and yes it is, he took it to roush to get it fixed, not ford.

Its a first edition, its not going to have all the bugs worked out quite yet.

The car still ran fine and nothing mechanical was wrong with it.

LOL I put an extra zero in there inadvertently.

He said it cost £126,000, multiply that by 1.6 and you get an approximate dollar value. Still, a lot of money to pay for a car with a bad immobilizer. And whoever said anything about mechanical, we're talking about electrical and electronic? After various check engine lights and the dispatch system disabling power to the car because they thought it repeatedly got stolen, it's kind of difficult to enjoy your car.

he said the check engine light went off once and it was fixed when he took it in. and he never said that the engine was disabled due to the alarm saying it was stolen, he only said that thoughts of it where in the back of his head.
So unless i missread something, i dont recall him saying that his car was shut off multiple times. I DO recall how ever him mentioning that when he first got it he couldnt get it to start because the imobilizer wouldnt disengage. He also said that they would call him when they thought it was stolen, and every time he was either a) still driving the car or b) the car was parked. So i dont remember it saying that the car ever was shut off remotely.

i meant the one of the very first produced. as in later ones would have the problems fixed.

and if you read the article Jeremy said that 25 were coming to Britain alone, in the first shipment. 1 of 16 in europe:dunno:

You're right, the problems with the car weren't exactly as I had recalled, but I think you're trying to sugarcoat the issues he did have with it. At least Ford gave him back his money, while VW would just wait till the warranty expired and giggle with delight.

In my opinion, the GT is a great car that was crippled by shoddy electronics. If you're going to make it an issue that it was 3rd party electronics, what in a car these days isn't 3rd party? We have Japanese cars built by Americans, German cars built by Mexicans. It is the decline of automotive quality, IMO.

just because you pay more doesn't mean it's exempt form all problems.. usually it means there's MORE problems.. low volume cars don't have to be reliable or pleasing to everybody just for their own niche market.. any human assembled car will have it's issues..

this is all referring towards hand built/low volume cars..

Wont happen.

If anything AT ALL...Ford and Toyota will do chassis/motor exchanges.

Car manufacturers have been having secret meetings and doing things like this since like 1900...LOL!

If I paid that much for a car, I would want to enjoy it and not have it ruined by some cheap alarm system.
