not surprising.

they havnt made a decent sports car since the Supra....

the mr-s was a complete failure IMO. it didnt appeal to the eye like is predecessor, the mr2. didnt have that exotic mid-engine sports car feel to it, and it was mighty slow with no optional more powerful engine.

good riddance... that was a lowsy car.

how could they call the MR2 a sports car? it was light and pretty quick but wasnt better then a prelude. Honda remains the best sports car maker.

lol @ honda being the best sports car
What makes a prelude better in comparision to an mr2? They are totally differnt cars. The prelude is fwd, where as the mr2 is mr.They're not even in the same class.

The real question people should be asking Toyota is why don't they make an affordable FR sports car? At least one real FR car that doesn't have the MR-S' weak HP engine. Oh that's right... it would require them to stop thinking of new family vehicles and grow some hairy balls to do something worthwhile for young sports car enthusiasts.

The new Supra likely will not be in most (and I say most because most of us don't make over $100k/year) of our price ranges, especially if it's going to compete with the new GT-R or NSX. To me all these cars are going to be great and all and fun to dream about but if I know I can't afford one, then where does that leave entry level sports car buyers? With Nissan's 350z? With Honda's S2k? Are those the only two import FR cars that we get to choose from now? If so the future is bleak for anyone wanting anything new.

I think if the MR-S came with the 2zz stock it wouldve been a better performer. Even though im not a fan of the 2zz and that crazy "i dont make power till after 7k" powerband.

They seem to know what thier doing considering they are one of only a handful of car companys that are acutually bringing in money.

The same place we have been, looking at the use car market as we get further in life, make more money.

Thats why BMW and Audi and Lexus are becoming popular. People who could only afford a bug or a civic or silvia can now get more expensive games.

MR2 was a sports car IMO. The MR-S was questionable.

As far as your honda comments, tell me soo much about you...LOL! :_reeyon:

And guys this was in AUSTRALIA! The mr2, echo and celica were part of toyota's genisus program. Echo's long gone replaced by yaris. Celica was axed stateside, and the mr2 was also axed stateside. This is like news maybe in 2004. May be newworthy for australia..but its crazy you all are making 'good riddance' comments for a topic you don't know about!

Dont hate :_reeyon: I kinda thought the MR2 was a sporty car atleast since it was a two seater mid engine car. They are pretty quick too and fun drive. I know this goes against what i said earlier but i was actin stupid then.
Also my honda > all post should tell you that im laid back and down to earth type a guy.

Yeah, but i expanded on your terms. Not people know the mr2, celica and mr2 were part of the genisus program by toyota. It was designed to attract the youth back to buying toyota's. My point was that since the genisus program was scrapped, so should the cars that were part of the program.

adding onto what another had mentioned.. toyota seems to be pushing the sports into the luxury brand lexus now. the is350 and sc430 are the current dynamic sports duo for toyota.

check this out, the sc430 just won the 2006 super gt (formerly jgtc) series title. pretty impressive, considering it beat out the nsx, 350z, and supra in the same gt500 class over the course of the entire season.
