Honda is focused on the development of a new model to succeed the NSX. Planned for 2008, Honda NSX should benefit from its experiment in F1 by proposing a V10 engine for the new car.

This addresses the single largest complaint about the original NSX, which has always been its lack of power.
Just like the old one, will be a technological window for Honda "This new sports car will be the first of a new generation" concluded the director of Honda, Takeo Fukui.
With the V10 the new NSX will be the most powerful honda ever made. The carmaker is aiming for the top in producing engines.
The new Honda/Acura NSX will move upmarket, and will target Aston Martin.
2008 NSX II will offer a 4.5 Liter V10 and a 3.6 V6 , all wheel drive with prices around $100,000.

The mid-engine Honda HSC concept from the 2003 Tokyo show the way toward the next NSX.
The use of Honda’s "Super Handling AWD" system is also a possibility.
SH-AWD is capable applying a greater percentage of overall torque to the rear wheels in aggressive driving situations.
The SH-AWD technology is fantastic for high performance vehicles. The technology was first used on Acura’s RL model. It worked so well, that they have decided to apply the technology to some of their more high-performance vehicles.
Honda plans to raise its global sales by nearly 25 percent over the next three years to four million vehicles a year. Its strategy is based around offering clean, economical models, more hybrids and alternative-fuel vehicles.

The old one
Honda ended production of the NSX in 2005, 15 years after the first NSX was built. The last cars were built in September for the European market and December for North America. For most of its life, it was the most expensive Japanese car in many markets.

its sad we get watered down cars

We do not get watered down cars... we get the same cars everyone else does we might not have certain aesthetics like bumpers or ride heights or even steering wheels, but we get the same cars. The specifications are the same, we get the same basic car period. Other countries might get better tires or a stiffer suspension but the majority of the cars are the same. Just because we dont get all of the models other countries doesnt mean we get watered down peices of shit.

The reason we don get them is because the manufacturers think there is no market. You have to realize that they are in business to make money and their not gonna lose money. They try their hardest to bring their cars to as many people they can in as many places they can. So if you think that we really get watered down cars then either move somewhere else or just change to the specs you want, but you would be suprised at how similar the cars are.

I beg to differ sir - Nissan 240SX, we were robbed.

(Pignose S13) '89 - '90 = SOHC 2.4L n/a 140HP/140lbs-ft vs. DOHC 1.8L Turbo 175HP/169lbs-ft

(Sharknose S13)'91 - '94 = DOHC 2.4L n/a 155HP/155lbs-ft vs. DOHC 2.0L Turbo 205HP/203lbs-ft

(S14) '94 - '98 = The same damned motor vs. DOHC 2.0 Turbo w/ VVT 225HP/220lbs-ft

And we didn't even get the S15 cause of the S14's sales.

we do get watered down cars: We got the e36 m3 with a much weaker motor.

we got the sti with a much weaker motor, internally, we got the 2.5 RS for years with the WRX bodywork but without the motor suspension and brakes.

we got the evo without the super AYC, one of its best features.

and again, the 240sx, we really got robbed.

Compare the 02 Civic Si to the 02 UKDM or JDM CTR

What about the Fit? Wheres the 1.3 Diesel?

Out first DOHC VTEC wasnt until 6 years after it debuted in JDM world, and the 1.7L is hardlyseen anymore....

WHat about Honda LSD trannys? Where are those at? No market for those?

technically the first dohc vtec motor was the 1991 acura nsx....but if we are talking 4 cylinder then yes it was the pitiful b17a1, but in that respect it was interesting because it was a u.s. only motor.

so far it looks pretty good, definately the next in movement in the evolution of the nsx. as has been said though the rear needs some revision. the front end gets the go ahead in my book.

If you guys are so sore about not getting the same rides that some manufacturers sold in other countries, then why not support the manufacturers that did bring you the badass rides straight out of the box?

I honestly like being able to pay much lower insurance because my cars are supposed to be slow, economy cars not made for going fast.

itll be about 500HP

Not from a 4.5L V10. BMW and Lambo had a hard enough time getting just over 500hp from 5L V10s. Sure, Honda might have something up their sleeve to break 100hp/liter, but I really don't know if they'll hit hit the 111hp/liter they would need for that. Generally, specific output gets lower as you go up in engine size. There are a few sterling examples out there like the Carerra GT, though.

In addition, the BMW and Lambo engines don't make much torque, either. They're both under 400lb-ft. The Lexus might be the same way, since it's supposed to get a 5L V10 as well. With an even smaller engine and Honda's notoriety for somewhat low torque outputs, the NSX-replacement's torque figures might be laughable.

The GT-R will will beat them all in torque output, and probably cost at least $20k less.

bmw did not have a difficult time at all extracting 500hp from the v10. its almost directly based on their f1 engine. the original concept was created and detuned to what was understood to be a reasonable power level for the chassis and was still over 600hp.

Looking at this from the perspective that Honda not only makes IRL engines but Formula 1 as well, I don't see it having a problem producing 500 Hp with a 4.5L V10. The question remains what the powerband would look like and to echo VQuick, the torque will be nothing to brag about for sure with that little displacement. I just hope the NSX does not end up like the S2K, revving past 7 to get usable power; would be nice to see a honda engine with power below 4K RPM.

al
11-29-2006, 09:21 AM
at roughly ~3000 lbs, a 4.5L is guaranteed to get that thing moving. Even at 3.2L, the NSX, despite people's complaints, would keep up with Skylines on the track. Americans just complain because it doesn't feel like their automatic SUV from the stoplight.

It's all about area under the curve, man. No doubt the car will be fast, but the more useable/available torque, the better.

Electric motors like in Honda's IMA system might be able to offer a performance benefit. If the V10 was extremely peaky, maybe IMA could be used to assist in takeoff a bit. It could be kinda like launch control systems that other cars have. :hsugh:

We haven't seen anything close to the production front end of the GT-R yet, but the profile and the rear are sexy as hell. I don't agree with you at all on this one.

As to the NSX design, I like the front, but the profile looks really plain for supercar. The rear end is hideous. Also, the rear glass seems really upright. That can't be good for drag :/

hehe, wouldn't the b18b1 engine fall under that? haha, cause after 4K rpm's no power is present.

All in all, I have high hopes for the new NSX

hehe, wouldn't the b18b1 engine fall under that? haha, cause after 4K rpm's no power is present.

Ok, lets not get off topic having a 4 cyl engine debate, save it for Car Talk. And as for the new NSX, Honda will do it right in Japan and whatever we get will be only 95% of the JDM version; this we all know is true. Either way though, if it is as iconic as the original with an all aluminum chasis and handling that is second to none, I would own one in a second!

In terms of performance comparisons, there's a hint of doubt the GT-R will best the C6 Z06 on the track. Now I really do wonder about this new NSX.
