I applied for this school in canada, and they wanta portfolio of some pics that i've done, but all my pics are from black and white 35mm film that i did.

So, I was wondering what the best digi cam is so that I can get back into Photography and send these ppl some of my skillz.

I'm mainly good at still photo's
and some portraits....

I've done some action shots....

but never took them to get developed.
(did my own developing)

So... i was wondering if I can get some help.

Canon A630.

Good amount of manual control, 8mp, flip-out LCD, nice pics, long battery life.

Or, save some money and get the older A610, A620. I like my A610.

megapixels dont make good pix, they make better prints....

you can take great shots with a 5.0mp camera.

check into a sony f717 or f828

since your oh so the MASTER

im not the master of anything, im telling you straight up.

if you are openly trying to be a professional, then I(we) shouldn't sugar-coat it for you. you are obviously going to present what you feel is your best work and for someone thats been doing it for any length of time and thats the best work they have, well you just dont have the eye for it. if you really want to keep trying, take a class. making a thread saying HEY GUYS I WANT TO BE A PRO TELL ME WHAT CAMERA TO GET isnt the way of doing it. who cares what camera you have you can make a great image with any camera...especially if you are using photoshop like you are. as for me ive always had a design interest. my grandfather used to own a bunch of pawn shops when i was little. he always had a bunch of random old cameras that i would play with. i have photos of me playing with them when i was a kid. then took a photo class in high school. the guy failed me. he told me i could never be a photographer. only class ive ever failed. so i decided to show him he's wrong. i took a hiatus from photo while i was involved in playing in bands and what not, however i was always the one with the camera or camcorder. matt chow and i seriously got into digital photography kinda together 3-4 years ago and we've been at it ever since.

ok.. to be serious about it....

since we are'nt sugar coating anything

i started taking photos and making little mini videos when I was about 15 yrs old..

i started my senior year of school in a photography class...

and i was just like you.. my teacher told me the same thing...
So i feel where you come from on that aspect...
She passed me because she felt sorry for me...
i told her that I wanted to do this as a profession..
She laughed..
So.... I would liek to do the same.

After that i havent picked up a camera till yester day and today i took some shots... working on my skill i did have.. or have....

so... What im asking for is some help.. that's all I ask for...

your the pro....

TIPS Please.... to help me out...

i do want to become a professional Photographer...
for Sports and Extreme sports and car events and such

Like soon.. im about to start taking photos at the breakdancing session with me and my crew.

thats cool and all but when you say HEY GUYS I WANT TO BECOME PRO AND LIEK SOON!

thats kind of a jab in the face to anyone who has been on the grind for a long time in the profession. im on the come-up and im grindin too. the pro sports photo profession is packed with middle aged + guys that have been doing it for decades. ive made some great friends, and happy to have a lot of them be very experienced older pros, but ill be damned if there arent tons more that are like who is this fucking tattooed kid coming in here. you are going to have to learn the trade just like anyone in any trade, so take it like that, dont just ask the fastest route to become pro, because you need to fast.

good luck though. i have lots of experience with breakin/dance photos let me know if you need any help. what crew are you with?

not trying to be an ass, but if youre going to school specifically for photography, you shouldnt base your decision on what schools other people went to. you sound like youre just kind of jumping into this decision.

Todd Spoth

really depends on what time of photography you are trying to pursue.

im not bashing you, its just you all the suddent want to goto a school, but you only want to take pics of cars and models. Why not spend sometime actually doing it, rather then spend lots of money to goto a school and then decide you dont want to do it for a living, or worse not be able to get a job.

Your portfolio would speak alot more than what school you went to, as alot of ppl have told me, where you went to school gets your foot in the door for the interview and thats it.

you dont need a new camera, just do with what you have right now. Unless you are actually being limited by your camera. It sounds like you have a peaked interest in this and you think that spending the money is gonna give you results like the top photo guys on this forum and it wont. I have seen xnerox shoot with many different set ups and everything comes out good, not because of the equipment or schooling but because of his talent. Start taking lots of pictures and make sure you have fun doing it, and dont think oh this would be alot better if a I x camera, cuz 99% of the time thats not the case

Why don't you just put together a portfolio of your film work and have it scanned to CD and sent to the school? Much cheaper than buying a digital.

every school almost has a photography program. and it really doesnt matter where you go, but more of what you do with what you learn.

in texas, i would suggest UT. pretty good photojournalism program as well as many graduates who've won pulitzer prize awards. but again, it's all on the individual.
