How do you take pics like these? I have a Nikon Coolpix 8400. How would I go about being a pro like you guys?

it seems like the word "pro" is being thrown around a lot these days.

pro means many different things to different people. some people think you are a pro if you get paid, which means the noob with his rebel and the 20 bux his neighbor paid him for photos of his restored mustang is a "pro" others feel its a total mastery of a craft. i think its a happy medium, someone that gets legitimately paid for it and is advanced enough to know what he/she is talking about.

that said there is nothing that says hey pro photo! its just learning what you have. macro is a weird thing because a lot of people dont really know what it is and think its just taking a photo really close.

having an SLR camera with a dedicated MACRO lens is a start, but learn what you have first. the 8400 is a good camera.

I know what you mean by "pro". I was just sack riding your skills.

a simple "good shots guys" would have been sufficient.

i would agree with you todd. i defintely wouldnt agree that someone is a pro if their next door neighbor paid them to take a few shots of their car or pet or somethin like that. i just read something in popphoto that said somethin like "if you can explain why you charge what you charge, then you have a good head start"... well maybe i didnt explain it quite that well... but it made sense in my head.

so uh...basically, if macro isn't just a really up close photo, what is the real definition of macro? I usually thought it was just an up close photo :hs:

Well the word "macro" means "large".... taken because the sensor in the camera is larger than the object in which the photo is being taken

Nowadays I'm pretty sure that everyone knows what you mean when you say macro... as in taking a picture really close and making the object in focus large.

this 'thing' gave me no choice except for me to suffocate it with nail polish remover. I exhausted all of my option in any agreement for it to sit still so i can take a macro portrait of him. he refused then i gave him an ultimatum. But still no signs of giving in so i did what i had to do b/c david seale came up with this macro thread. It's all ur fault david. Well here it is:::

thats not a macro lens therefore they wont be macro photos. you should probably read a book before starting your "business" bro.

a lot of point and shoots actually have pretty decent macro capability. read your manual.

if you read actually, the 50 mm aswell as 60 mm is considered under a macro lens... therefore will permit you to take a macro shot upclose with a very nice clear shot..

the 50 is not classified as a macro lens by canon, and doesn't have the close range focusing ability of a macro lens. the ef-s 60 is a macro lens tho. but the 50 1.4 def is not.

but anyways, you've been saying you're going to post pics for like a week, but still nothing. what are you afraid of?

technically the 50mm 2.5 is :P

No, that would be the edge of my hand holding the camera. You can see the silver camera just left of the pupil.
