Seriously. There's like 4 threads in here about this already, and I'm sure there will be more.
If you want to ask some of the more experienced photographers which camera you should get, post it in this thread and someone will get back to you.
Thx! :_reeyon:

Set what up? I'm pretty familiar with the Canon menu layout and I'm sure you can find info on dpreview.com or imaging-resource.com They go into detail on the controls/interface.

^Yeah something like that. I went from a simple 3 MP to a IMO complexed 6 MP. I'm not used to all the features and don't know how to use the controls.
Thanks!:thumb: That second site looks like it has the help that I've been looking for

why not just sticky a thread that explains to people that they should do their own research. refer them to places like dpreview or cnet, yada yada.
Actually I think I read a thread with some of the best advice you can give someone. I wish I would have followed it.
If someone is seriously looking at making photography a hobby or possible source of income, you should just get a point and shoot and then upgrade from there.
The comment was made, either you got an eye or you don't.
Tell me more about the Rebel.
I plan on getting back into doing film and I got to mess around with a Bolex a few weekends back and I was getting shots out of frame, etc like a noob. So I want to redevelop my eye. Way back in the stoneage in high school we were given some Nikons to run around and learn how to properly frame things, manually adjust the lens, etc before we were even allowed to pick up an actual film camera. So really, I'm looking for a SLR that I can shoot with for the next 6 months or so where I can get used to manual lens, framing, etc before I go and get a film camera and I found a good deal on a Rebel XT ($300) from one of the old ladies at work who bought one but never used it.
Tell me the strengths and weaknesses about it :o Thx

dude sami if you really want to learn right, buy my AE-1program. ill give you a package deal with that camera and maybe another camera and some film and other goodies for like $300.

I'll think about it :o The reason I ask about a digital camera is because a lot of the dudes on videohelp are pushing people to learn on digital SLRs and then to make the jump to digital film, which would be fine with me since I'd save about $500-600 on processing equipment on 16 MM film.

what are you talking about? are you talking about video or still?
what are you talking about? are you talking about video or still?
A lot of guys on videohelp are pushing to get a digital still SLR and to get used to it and then make the jump to a digital film camera. It just so happened I found a good deal on a Rebel so I was wondering if it was a good camera to learn on.
But chances are I'll pick up your film cameras also eventually.

did you even read my question?
did you even read my question?
Yes, did you get my clarification?
The video guys are pushing to get a digital SLR if I plan on using a digital video camera. Is a digital Rebel a good camera to learn from?

i asked if you were talking about video or still?
so you are going to be a film maker now or something?
why would you be on some video forum if you were looking to get a still camera.

I want to get back into doing film. I got to use a Bolex a few weeks ago:

And I was off frame, etc. When you learn film you are taught how to shoot from a still camera before you can use an actual film camera (we used Nikons at Creek to learn). So I want to relearn all that and from what I've been told it is best to learn from a digital SLR if I plan on using a digital film camera.
Make sense?

well i guess i shall ask away as well on this thread....
I want to get more and more into photography even as a hobby but one that i can be disciplined in and not be that average point and click guy. Currently i have a SONY P200 and well its OK.... but i want to move up to a SLR from Canon but don't know if i should start with the Rebel or maybe a bit higher model. SO i ask what do you recommend for a guy that... loves taking good pics with actual composition and an artistic flavor to them, that currently hates his current camera that acts like a complete idiot in night shots without the aid of a tri-pod and can be a great stepping stone along with a challenge to master.
I have taken an intro to photography course so i understand apature and shutter speeds and lighting and what not but i want to get some actual photos under my belt... i do have some examples of what i have done with my p200 that i may post one day soon. (sorry for the length) :-/

i say go for the rebel xt or similar for now to get used to the DSLR world and if you want to get more serious get better glass (lenses) and then you replace the body after. good luck. post those shots!
