Let the discussion begin:rock:

good topic guys.
i guess ill break it down with a little FYI.
there are 2 different ways of making a filter.
one way is having the glass tube and basically shaving pieces off the end and you have the circular pieces of glass that are made into filters.
the other way is to have a huge sheet of glass (or whatever materials they use) and basically stamp the filters out (like cookie cutters)
ill add more later.

before you start using cokin filters, learn basic photography skills. cokins are way above what you are talking about doing now.
and you need an adapter for the end of the lens that will hold the filters.

Fluo probably means for indoor fluorescent lighting. If its the square-kind, you probably need an adapter. It fits on the front of the lens where you can slide it down. These are nice if you have a lot of different cameras or lenses that are different sizes and want to save money by buying one type of filter. The other type of filters are the round kind, and they have to be the exact size to fit on your lens or step-up ring.
I have a few filters I purchased from Todd a while back for my video camera. The most popular filter is the UV, which is basically just clear glass- great for protecting your lens and cheap to replace. Most of the time I use a nuetral density filter (ND) because I shoot outside a lot when its bright. I also sometimes use a Polarizer lens. I think i may have a fluro one but I don't ever use it.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but you can apply synthetic photo-filters using Photoshop CS2. It dosen't always give the same exact appearance as the glass would, but can usually mimic them quite well.
