View Full Version : What kind of Digital camera do you have?

Carl EBJR

I am looking to get a digital camera and I am curious what kind of camera takes great shots. So post up your brand name and model number with a picture taken with that camera to show how nice the picture is. Don't worry about beating other people's clarity because this is just a survey I guess to see what kind of camera I want to get. I am thinking about getting a Sony Cyber-shot DSC w50 but I am just curious what other cameras are out there.

I apoligize, but that thread is just asking for model numbers. I am curious what the pictures will actually look like. I looked at the other thread and that would be cool if they came in this thread with pictures they have taken with those cameras and post them here with the model number on the side.

People recommending $2k cameras when he's looking into a $200 camera.

The Casio Z60 and Canon SD450 are similar in style (compact) and price ($200-$250). If you don't need the slim kind, you can probably get something more capable for the same price.

I am looking for something kind of slim but takes clear photos. Stuff is always happening around me and I need a camera that I can just keep in my pocket. Also, do they have a slim camera that has like an auto-on, meaning when it's in the dark it's off (in pocket), but the second the sunlight hits a sensor or something the camera will instantly turn on for the things that happen really quick.

lol.... youre gonna laugh... but i didnt have my flash or anything at the time. I used a desktop lamp and used it under my BATHROOM SINK which was leaking! Basically messed with the settings(dont think that picassa shows exif data, hell, dont even remember what i used) until i got it right.... and it still isnt right. needs to be MUCH sharper.

definitely switch into manual focus and do some test drips(which may be a problem since youll need a controlled dripping device). if you can, get a laptop near by so you can see the results asap and make adjustments if needed.

since i now have my flash, ive been recommended to set it to the side on a seperate, mini tripod.

If you are going dSLR, - I'd say the lens is more important than the camera itself. most of the entry dSLR bodies are more than enough for the prosumer. the rebel xt used is now going for 450-550 each. + the 50 1.8, it should be a winner. but dow is newb ..

... You know, I wasn't going to buy a point and shoot cause I was lined up to get a 30D (which is now on hold cause I need coils). Only reason why I got the camera was cause price was decent compared to those "cool looking" cameras and you get a nice mm range for macro shots. The W50 doesn't take good shots & the W100 isn't compatible with optional lens. Of course, these lens do not compare with DSLR lens.

I haven't played with any Canon's but from the pics I've seen taken with a Canon p&s the colors come out nicely. That doesn't matter to me cause I normally do a little editing afterwards if I do have a slight problem with the colors.

I've done my research, I'm getting a 30D. It's an investment and I don't mind dropping so much on it. You get what you pay for.

David has tried to talk me into getting something else already but he failed.

azinwood
07-19-2006, 10:26 AM
realize the 30d will be replaced in a year so if you wont make the most out of it in a year, buy a cheaper one and upgrade to the lates and greatest when you're comfortable.

katie
07-19-2006, 10:34 AM
I'm not getting it cause it's the latest. I wanted the 20D but considering how there's not much of a price difference and there is a liiiiitttle bit of enhancement w/ the 30D, thats why I picked it. I'm going to wait a bit though. I'm in no rush and my struts are going to blow in the next 5k miles, which will be in a few months. I think I should get that taken care of first =]

If I do, it will be the 30D, and keep the 20D as a backup body. The feature set of the 20D is more than enough to shoot what I need to shoot. Half of the pros who shoot ALMS for a living use the 20D. If its good enough for them, its good enough for me.

nikon brand lens will be the best for that camera, then id say sigma....One of the kits you can get for the d50 come with the 18-55mm ED lens, so for a 1st time user this would be a good way to go, then start collectiong lenses that fit your needs

Nikons better glass is the ED glass, below that is the G and on top of that some of nikons lenses come in a VR which is vibration reduction

im not sure about canon lenses but from what i have heard the "L" glass is its better series of lens

here is nikons lineup of lenses http://nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=5

David Seale am i correct in what i said about the nikon stuff. And like Zerin said you want to invest in good glass because you will keep those forever where as a camera body you might upgrade and whatnot

i did use flash for fill. the light source was up away from her right side as you can tell so it casted this shadow on her face. i didn't have a diffuser at this time. i just got gary fong's ls2 so that would really help from now on.

As far as it being the best glass for the camera? I guess it really depends... I think everyone has different opinions... my first two lenses were sigmas and i honestly couldnt be happier with them. But Ive never had the chance to shoot with any nikon glass besides my 50mm(which is great btw) so I cant speak my opinion on that without testing out some nikon stuff.

i do think third party lenses are underrated... they can produce some great images.

Honestly, it is more about glass sometimes than the camera body. I don't think there's a substantial enough difference between the XT, 20D, and 30D for me to upgrade other than ISO control, but primarily for what I shoot, there's a rule of thumb to never pass 400.

I need a lens with IS =( Dark churches reallllllly make me want to get the canon 70-200 f/2.8IS but jesus, I can't afford it.

sony t5/t7 suck ass

may not be as fancy as the other high-end digital cameras but for people who want a sleek camera that gets the job done (and arent into profesionally taking pictures) i think it works wonders.

i personally have the t5 and i couldnt be happier with it :)

I really <3 my Canon Digital Elph SD30. SD400/500 are pretty good too.

I'd actually get the newer SD600/630/700IS for the new Digic II processor.
These cameras just seem to react quicker then the older ones and do a better job for the macro shots.
But I'm sure no need to tell you this. Just letting the other members know about it.
