Gee I wonder what YOUR screenname used to be :D

Never been metered, I'd say the 12 I had in my corolla was at MOST a 135, sealed on 500 watts. That's loud enough tho :)

SPL isnt EVERYTHING. SQ owns SPL. i dunno. i used to like SPL alot but someone turned me to the side of SQ. i just love hearing my music the way it was meant to be heard instead of a bunch of BOOM BOOM shit. just my opinion. even though no one asked.

I haven't measured anything yet. Since the install isn't complete... But I like SQL better than SPL. Clean sounding is always better than just hard bass.

you know what would be neat...build'n a system that could do both...sq and spl...just have a switch'n system that could handle it...you would have to have everything seperate....

Not seperate, unless you're going ALL OUT on both.

Look at Rick McCallum's car, he said he's switching to ID horns now, so he's selling his rainbow ref's, but even still, his new setup will be the horns, plus 6.5" midbass (prolly the id chameleon seperates still) and 4 IDMAX v.3's in the back of the matrix, on an arc 1500 each. Granted at competition he'll only turn on the sub amps during the spl portion, but still, it's not TOTALLY seperate.

Plus I like contradticting people..

you need subs in the SQ sound offs...there isn't any other way to get the dynamics of sound with out them...but the trick is to have two seperate...sub set ups...have the spl subs on one switch and have the sq subs on the other....but you also have to set the car up differantly when you do spl...to move the air around the microphone is what you are try'n todo...so you set it up todo that...in SQ you want it to be ambiant(sp)...to fill the car...and not just the windshield...

dak4.7
01-31-2003, 08:46 PM
The idea of bass in SQ is to have the bass sound as up front as possible, not all around you. Granted bass is 'non-directional' blah blah blah, but if you tone the bass down a bit, it begins to give an up front feeling, where the rest of the music should be coming from.

the "only" way to get the bass sound up front is to put the subs up front...they do that...if you have them in the back the best thing you could hope for is ambiant bass and up your mid-bass up front ...gives you that up front feel...but its still ambiant.

wrong.. think about mids... they are made to create a low amount of bass in certain frequencys to make the bas sound more all around besides just hitting you in the back...

the guy that was always at the competitions with me who always did sq always bragged about how hard is sq subs hit.. he had 3 memphis subs and hed pull steady 147's on sq tuning... not bad i would say

:wrd:

A lot of guys have a third mono EQ wired up just to the sub amps, with a turnon switch inline, so that when the brief SPL portion comes around, they flip the switch and are immediately thrown into spl mode, but hitting 147 in full SQ tuning with three subs is nice :)

oh really?...LOL...you are a funny one...tell me...have you actually put in a set of good mids?....like oh lets say a 8 " mid-woofer in a kick or a door?...or better yet...3 sets of componants in the front door of an excursion?...oh you haven't...well..thanks for play'n...

when you goto the movie house...where is the bass come'n from?...don't anwser me right now...goto a movie...some good action...should be some bad ass ones come'n out this summer...and you will see what i was talk'n about...

mid's and hi's up front...(unless you do a sub or two up front)
and bass all around.

now...as for my car...it was a SPL monster...that is all it was for...I set it up to bang as hard as it could on the dash...and from the arodynamics of my car I was able to tune it so it would hit the hardest up there...some ppl hated be'n in my car when I had the subs go....but lucky them I had the subs on a switch...I had a combination of two componants up front...boston pro 6.5 and diamond audio s600s's no back speakers...and it was loud and the mids up front created alot of mid-bass...not an SQ car at all...

Chris

im not dis agreeing with you that putting subs up front would be the best option but its not logical... i was suggesting the best way to recreate the sound of havng subs up front .. and do you have a better idea?? btw yes i have installed some kick panels... gg thx for playing buddy

akaPsyco™
02-03-2003, 10:35 AM
you have built one kick pannel?....just one...and you got it right the first time...wow...I bet every installer must be knock'n at your door to ask you what your secret is...my first kick sounded alright..but it didn't image...and it could have sounded a whole lot better...now I build kicks on a computer program...image right and sound bad ass.

oh...and when you put this coax speaker in your kick pannel...did it sound good?...or was it just loud....and when did that speaker blow?

give me a month and I will put anything YOU have to shame...and I will do it with Punch equipment...not even the best. so as not to hurt your heart as much.

even at those prices, equipment exists that will compete head to head with the JL gear......and win. JL makes awesome equipment, but it's priced too high IMO, even if you get a discount on it.

keep in mind people, that it's all in the install. Someone has hit 170+ legal SPL with a single 10 inch woofer, in the DB Drag sanctioning organization, in the extreme 1-2 class.

and BTW, the most I've ever hit on the dash was 153.0 on a linear X meter, with my two Shocker 15's and 2 Punch BD1000's, from the trunk of my civic.

I've broke 150 legal SPL with a single 15 or a pair of 12's many times in my civic.

I don't put subs in my ride anymore, unless I have some sort of special occasion, like if i have time to go to a local sound-off to have fun competing. I do have decent SQ though.

how do you fig?...just wonder'n what you mean?...I said I can get a $1000 woofer for $289 a 13w7 for $289...name something that wound even come close to a 13w7 for around $300.

Digital Designs, Shocker Audio, and many others.

And just because you can get good deals on JL, that doesn't mean you may not be able to get good deals on other good gear.

I'm not knocking JL, but IMO I'd have a few choices I would take over a W7.

akapsycho is right. the best way to bring bass upfront is to put the sub upfront. the next best thing to do is get rid of rear speakers and have stronger midbass upfront. midbass will help (a lot BTW) bring the bass upfront. many people think a complete system is just mids, subs, amps, headunit, etc, but what they're forgetting is something to cover the 70hz-250hz range. if you dont' have midbass, don't go to comps and expect to win..

going back on topic...

i hitted 148.6db off a Termpro mic running a DEI 1100D amp and (1) 15" Elemental Design K-series tuned for SQ.

also 149db off a linearX mic running a single 15" RE SE sub with 4 DEI 1100D amps (2 strapped to each coil). (not finished with the setup yet)

the only DEI's amps that i know of (same series as the 1100D) is the 600d. the 2400D amp is the biggest one they have, but its not strappable. 2400x1@2ohm. something tells me they putted 2 1100D circuit board and strapped them then putted it in a bigger case.
