Just a few years back, BMW offered a funky coupe version of its Z3 convertible. It was a unique ride that offered a bit more functionality than its drop-topped sibling, as well as an added splash of individuality. Then came the Z3’s replacement, badged the Z4, and that groovy Z3 coupe was gone. Until now, that is, because the BMW Z4 Coupe, which made its concept debut at the 2005 Frankfurt Auto Show, was again showcased at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit with the announcement that production would begin this year at the company’s South Carolina facility. And, as if that wasn’t enough, an M version will be launched, too.
From a design perspective, the Coupe looks much like the recently-introduced and updated 2006 BMW Z4 Roadster, a model accented by revised fog lights and air inlets and a tail marked by reworked taillights and a sharper body line. However, the coupe adds an arched hatch that incorporates a subtle spoiler, and provides access to a small cargo area. Housed under the hood is a 255-horsepower 3.0-liter engine that will push the BMW Z4 Coupe to 62 mph in less than six seconds. Bolted into M versions will be a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine pushing 343 horsepower. Features found on the Z4 Coupe concept car, which won’t necessarily make it to production, include aluminum pedals, an interior swathed in high-quality leather, matching luggage, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but chances are the BMW Z4 Coupe, especially the M model, won’t be cheap – performance cloaked in individuality seldom is.

Inside is hot. Black would be good too. I'm sure from the factory they'll have a few colors to pick from for the interior.

I like the interior, it just looks a bit luxurious. It should be sporty. The interior reminds me of a Bentley or something nice like that.

I liked the interior until I sat inside it. My dad has one (the roadster, not the coupe.) and the first thing I thought was "HELLO HARD PLASTIC! NICE TO SEE YOU! DID YOU SNEAK OUT OF THE CHEVY FACTORY TO COME SEE ME HERE TODAY?"
I miss BMW's old interior designer. My GF dated his son when she was a kid :o he did the e36 and I think some of the early e46 cars.

I like the way the interior looks kinda, but the comfort is a different story. I'll take it that the ride sucks.

I love teh car, but on the 18's it is quite a bit bumpier than my subaru on KYB struts and prodrive suspension, which I wasn't expecting.
It corners like a slot-car though and is extremely easy to rotate in corners. The traction control, I wish, was easier to disable as even in "off" mode it still tends to rear its ugly head when you want to have a bit of fun.

hard to get it sideways and keep it sideways.
but, like the s2k, it's pretty easy to spin it around because youll be trying to get it into a fun top gear style slide and instead the traction control kicks in, you give it more input and all of a sudden the electronics cant fight physics and you spin.
This was all on wet pavement in a parking lot. :hs:
I liked his s2000 better. Less electromechanical widgets. I hate widgets. I like CARS dangit.
