Info has been out for a week or so now......i just havent seen any threads about it here.

Looks to be a car to watch out for on the roads.....

looks kinda gay compared to the original concept

and i thought it was suposed to carry the 2.3 turbo awd platform w/ 276 hp?

Nope......2.3L Turbo FWD.

It has the same exact motor and set-up as the Mazdaspeed6 that has 276hp......just de-tuned. Wouldnt make sense for Mazda to give the MS3 the same power output as the MS6.......it would take away sales from the MS6.

And i think they didnt give it AWD because of the price......trying to keep costs down, and keep it under $25k

but i had originally read somewhere that mazdaspeed6 was going after the Legacy GT / turbo saloon category, while the mazdaspeed3 was going to be 276hp awd to compete with the sti and evo, oh well, those specs would have blown ppl away a few years ago back when the srt4 first came out, but now with the new srt caliber (or w.e its called) comming out those specs dont seem too outrageous.

this is the front i was tlaking about:

imo it looks better than the one in the pics up there

No thanx, that pic looks rice.

I still think Mazda will steal sales away from the Caliber SRt-4.......the caliber looks retared imo, even the current neon srt4 owners think it looks ghey. And Mazdaspeed will own the caliber srt4 in almost every category except maybe for the quarter-mile.........it has a higher quality build, best suspension tune in its class.....OVERALL a much better car.

Built for the twisties.

......200+ lbs. lighter, and 20 more ft. lbs. or torque than the Caliber SRT4, along with a new and improved LSD.

It should be a good match.

The Mazda3 with the 2.3L is at 2800lbs..........and no official wieght has been announced. Should be around 2900lbs. or so with the extra goodies it has.......

I wonder if Mazda did a good job of bulking this engine up like the MSP's. :roflmao:

Edit: Also, we all now what happened when Dodge said 215hp/245tq. I got more than that to the wheels. I'm not insinuating that the Caliber SRT-4 will have more whp than the engine is rated at, but we'll see.

Why don't we just keep our internet racing to a minimum until the cars come out.

The AWD mazdaspeed6 has lost almost every comparison it has been in and the reviews havent been anything special..

judging by the mazdaspeed6 i expect nothing spectacualar out of this car.... sounds like a nice engine though..

youd think with the GTi being able to hit 29k loaded up it would give mazda the confidence to put AWD in this thing and hit the 26-30k pricepoint.. actually isnt the mazdaspeed6 30k? why couldnt they have added AWD and made the 3 26k??... ahh well.. nice try i suppose

Lets just say the MSP was a test mule for the Mazdasped brand...LOL :p They now have beefed up the motors.....:D

...and your very true about dodges numbers, its going to be nice seeing what it really pulls.

The RX-8 being the only "sports car" by common definitions, or at least the only car capable of turning corners the way a sports car should, I think that retaining FWD is fine for the 3. Mazda just knows what buyer demographics to target with this vehicle.

first hand experience on a car that is "coming soon"? seems like the people at msprotege.com have issues with their 3's.

i thought the msp was a pretty nice car though, hope this is available as a sedan also

i would have preferred a MS3 with AWD over the MS6. It would almost be like having an AWD focus :D oh well. Not like i'm ever going to buy one.

Speaking of Focuses, I still want an RS. :hs:

The new MKII Focus ST is actually faster than the old RS around the 'Ring. evo actually considers the Focus to be a nice rival for the GTI, since it is cheaper and almost as good in terms of quality. The GTI wins in terms of involvement and driving feel, but just barely.

Unfortunately, we don't get the MKII Focus here at all. However, the Mazda 3 is based on the MKII Focus, so it's got the same great chassis. In fact, the Mazdaspeed 3 might be better. Instead of the big, heavy 2.5L inline 5 from Volvo, the 3 has a 2.3L inline four, so the nose is a little lighter and more responsive.

Watch out for MS3 and GTI comparos. I can't wait.
