View Full Version : G37, M37, FX37 trademarked by Nissan

So, I happened to be on the US Trademark website for work, and punched in "G37" just for the hell of it. And lo and behold, it came up as being trademarked by Nissan on January 26, 2006!

"M37" and "FX37" were trademarked on the same date.

This pretty much confirms that the rumored 3.7L "FZ" engine is going into the G, M, and FX. And that they will change their moniker to correctly reflect the size of the engine.

Check it out.

Some others I found interesting (although they may be meaningless and/or obsolete, they were still trademarked):

INFINITI R SPEC
VX35, VX45, VX25
AX35, AX45, AX25
MAGIC BUMPER
JX35, JX45, JX25
350ZR

hmmm if i remember right i read an article on here about how japanese engineer people are trying to fit a v8 engine into the next Z which would be call the 450z cos it would have 450hp.....

3.7 v6... or v8? :ninja:
It's a V6.

As if the 'Rev Up' VQ35(the third revision for the engine family) with 300hp wasn't modified enough, with a new crank, conrods, dual CVTC(intake and exhaust; previously intake side only) and intake manifold, Nissan went a step further.

The 3.7L V6 is a highly modified VQ(I suspect even the block design has been changed) called the FZ. It's supposed to debut in the G37, M37, and FX37, producing somewhere in the neighborhood of 330hp.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GT-R ends up with a twin turbo version of this engine, since there had been some rumors of a 3.7L V6 not too long ago.

News of the FZ-series also makes one wonder what will be done with the VK-series V8. With a 330hp M37 making only 5hp less than the M45, the V8 will be due for some revisions as well. Since the VK is basically a V8 VQ, a lot of the changes Nissan made to the V6 family should work on the V8s as well.

Some others I found interesting (although they may be meaningless and/or obsolete, they were still trademarked):

INFINITI R SPEC
VX35, VX45, VX25
AX35, AX45, AX25
MAGIC BUMPER
JX35, JX45, JX25
350ZR

Infiniti R Spec-It's supposed to be the brand for NISMO parts sold at Infiniti dealers. It's been around for a while, but I haven't heard much about it, so there might not be many sales. Not much of a market in bolt-on parts for luxury cars, imho. A performance badge like AMG for Mercedes Benz would make more sense.
VX-No idea. :hs: Some kind of SUV, and the high letter designation would lead one to believe that it is intended to be 'better' than the QX56.
AX-There is supposed to be a small entry level SUV in the lineup, but it is supposed to be called the CX. :dunno: That designation has also been trademarked.
Magic Bumper-Not sure. Maybe it has to do with that special paint Nissan developed that is supposed to automatically clear up scratches on its own. That could certainly come across as being 'magic.' :dunno:
JX-Not sure about this, either. Could it be a rebadged Pathfinder, meant to offer a more rugged alternative to the FX?
350ZR-Lots of ideas on this one.
1. First off, Nissan engineers have said that they liked the direction Porsche took with the Cayman, and hope to make the next Z a little more hardcore.
2. In line with that, there is a concept called the Fairlady Z RS with some NA performance upgrades(~350hp) and structural enhancements(integrated roll cage) that could turn the Z into quite a viable production performer.
3. There is also the rumor that there will be a turbo Z, using much of the GT-R's equipment. There are supposedly only 1500 GT-Rs coming to the US, so this hotter, more numerous Z(hopefully cheaper, too) would be something of a second chance for those who miss out on the GT-R.

It's not going to happen. They already scrapped that like 2-3 months ago.

And as I degress.... there is no 240 anything. :(

The 240 will not be reintroduced.

Yeah, it's too bad when you think about it. From the look of the Foria and Urge concepts, it sounds like someone at Nissan wants the Silvia/240SX to make a comeback. It just might not be anyone important enough(Ex: Ghosn).

After all, in terms of styling, the Foria was basically a modern version of the original CSP311(??) Silvia.
The Urge showed that the FM platform could support a lightweight vehicle(2400lbs) and sport a rear seat with no chassis modifications(same wheelbase as the 350Z).

I'm not saying there will be a replacement, just that Nissan has all the tools they need to do it if they want.

Well from the looks of it I thought they were looking to have a compact sports car but not anymore. The 350z is cheap enough to fill in the gap of their cheap sports car. Let's not even bring up a Sentra SE-R as their compact sports car because we all know it isn't. It would be great to have a 16-18k rwd 200-230hp compact but it ain't gonna happen. You're exactly right though. It isn't important enough.

Not with the MR20 that's due out. With how badly they whored out the VQ motor for everything that needed an inline 6 (not that the VQ is a bad motor AT ALL) this might be Nissan's only 4 banger for a long while.

Well, there is a bit of hope in the form of RenaultSport. The new MKIII RenaultSport Clio will get a two liter 200hp I4(up from 180hp). I think the Sentra will share some components with the Megane, and the RenaultSport Megane 225 has an older turbo version of the 2 liter 4cyl with 222hp(225ps, thus the name).

Who knows, maybe Nissan will see fit to use some of these engines. A reskinned Megane 225 would make a great Sentra SE-R. RenaultSport is really good with chassis and suspension setup when it comes to daily drivers, possibly better than NISMO.

Not that I don't have any respect for fwd cars or awd cars for that matter. I just want a rwd car under warranty that isn't a 350z.

I'm guessing he's referring to the subject of this thread (copyrighting car model names), and how the Mercedes CL could not have possibly been trademarked if another brand was already using the name. Perhaps not all car names are trademarked.

a new rwd compact wont be made because it will take some market away for the 350z

Well, I was mainly referring to the nonsporting MR20DE. Still, you'd be surprised at how good an SE-R would be if it were a rebadged RenaultSport Megane 225. The 225 is a good rival to the MKV GTI, and in Cup or Trophy spec, the Megane can actually beat it in certain areas.

However, if Nissan isn't going to try and offer a compact rwd coupe, I'd sure love to see where they were headed with the Foria and Urge. Why bother with them?

A long time ago(2002 or so), a Nissan representative had talked about the next GT-R, but then said how they hoped to revive the Silvia as well, giving a specific place for it in the Nissan/Infiniti sports car lineup. In his words(what I can remember anyway), the GT-R was the ultimate, the Skyline Coupe the civilized one, the 350Z the macho car, and the Silvia as the entry level car.

on Nissan's website, they are already listing the 07 Sentra ... looks to be a 135hp 2.0s version, so I'm assuming the MR20 is here :(

You have to consider the positive. That's still a base Sentra with more power than the last one.

Then there could still be an SE-R model. It will probably need around 200hp just to be competitive, and probably more, considering Ghosn likes his cars to have more power than most in-class competition.

Cheer up, emokid! :roflamao:
