Well im gonna be in the market soon for a truck, im sick of the car. I've done a lot of searching and researching and I've kinda concluded on the lightning, but ive only heard a bunch of one-sided comments from lightning owners. What do you guys think about the truck? Im just curious, your comment will not have any bearing on my decision at all.:thumb:

ive only been around 1 lightning, but from what i saw from it, it was a very nice truck. He never had many problems with it. Very quick. I know this isnt much help but what the hell. Good luck with finding a truck.

If i had to get me a truck to use everyday and still be nice to race once in a while. I would go with the S/C Harley. But if u want a new one, lightning would be the one. Unless u find a B4U S-10, but u probably wont.

only thing that thows me off is that its automatic.. i think they all come in auto only, right?.. anyways you lookgin at anything else? you wana go fast, or is it manily a daily driver/fun truck? look into the tacoma x runners, of course i'm a bit biased.. they're defintally not as fast , but it will undoubtly get better mileage and they're offered in a 6speed manual , also they pull .89 g's on a skidpad:eek3:

My cousin has a Harley truck, its really nice but I'm not a fan of the crew cab and I have no use for the extra space. Btw, what is a B4U S-10?

Yeah they only came in auto. I was also looking at the Ram w/ the hemi, std. cab Silverado. I'm gonna mainly use it for daily driving with the occasional jaunt to the track. I looked at the X-runner but I lost intrest with them for some reason.

a friend of mine can drop 350's into S10 trucks. I don't know jack about them, but I do know they are pretty damn fast :thumb:

Truck is really really FAST. It has a lot of power. But - for what it really is, its not really a truck. I mean its a truck but you dont drive or use it like a truck truck. Its a fast "pick-up" - truck lol. I think they are bad ass. As long as you dont use it like a truck.

No wont be using it like a truck in that sense. But there will be some occasional hauling involved, but nothing crazy.

I have a couple friends with them, they seem to be pretty cool trucks. They're torque monsters, and there is quite a bit of aftermarket support for them. As long as you don't plan on hauling anything crazy, and aren't expecting great gas mileage I would say go for it.

I love them. I am on my second L and am debating on selling it to get a different color (Sonic Blue). As for not being able to use it as a 'truck', it actually does just fine. I've towed a friends 33' Baja Outlaw with my other one and you cant even feel it behind the truck. :)

Well... considering the current style is about to be replaced with the new one, then it woulda kinda suck for you to get it and see the new ones smoking you.. but if you like that style better then go for it.. its a nice looking truck... the regular lighting pushes 365HP i believe or 360HP something like that and the svt pushes 380HP. Either one is a GAS KILLER, ford is horrible on gas mileage... and if you want an interior that looks like something out of a 1995 truck then go for it.. its a pathetic interior... so if you want a lighting i say wait for the new ones to come out and see if they are something withing your price range and if not then good luck on the gas :) that little SVT Sport Trac looks sweet too... think its 390HP on that sucker.. coming pretty soon also...

First off, there will be no new Lightning for a while if at all. Second there is no 'regular' Lightning, then a SVT Lightning...only an SVT Lightning. Third, you dont buy a truck like the Lightning for gas mileage. And finally, you have a Colorado which doesnt exactly have the nicest of interiors.
Also, the SVT Sport Trac (Adrenaline) has been scrapped too.

dude, im gonna be polite as possible, and excuse your dumbass attack. we all have bad days.
there is no "replacement" coming for the Lightning. Ford abandoned the project to persure the GT500. Nothing else is slated for pre-production tests for a truck.
Second, there isnt a regular and svt. They're all SVT. SVT is the section of Ford who makes the Cobra, Lighting, etc. All the special performance cars are SVT. Saleen, Rousch, etc are 3rd party companies who modify built or partially-built cars for sale at dealerships with Ford's blessing and warranty.

...well it wasnt an attack , just an opinion that he asked for.. and sorry im not a FORD fan , i didnt know they dropped the project for it.. too bad it looked pretty nice. And i know what rousch, saleen , etc.. are im not a dumbass... but i do stand corrected, i always thought it came in a non and super charged version...now i know :)

and yes i know my colly doesnt have the best interior, but for a SVT truck that starts out at 33,560$ it should have a better touch in the inside...besides what can you expect from domestic interiors...

Love the lightings nice looking trucks and the sound of the sueprcharger makes me drool. Always thought about putting the engine from a lighting into a ranger though, saw an article on some that did that it, sweet that thing should be in the 12's.

The Lightning is my nemisis. It's the truck I want to be able to hang with after I finish sup'in up my truck.
I willl say there have been some BADASS lightnings roll by me like I was standing still. On one of the trucks' back window, it says "10-second Club Member"

They did. The 91-93? lightning was not s/c'ed. It was a 351 with a lot of torque, so your not entirely wrong. But the one im looking at is the newer s/c version.

a friend of mine just picked up an 03 lightning recently.
chip, intake, headerback exhaust, lower pulley, dyno tune, laid down 382hp and 520tq. this was with his plugs getting blown out. with the newer tighter gapped plugs and the highflow cats, xpipe, and magnapacks he should be a hair over 400hp and right around 500ftlbs.
it hauls. he is getting a new valve body on the tranny to make it shift harder but the truck runs like a mofo. yea its not really a pratical truck cause of how low they sit and the small payload capacity 1500 payload, 5000lbs towing. it does handle really well though. its basically a mustang with a a mean engine and a bed instead of a useless backseat and small trunk.
really nice though. he is shooting for mid 12's on et streets on feb 19th.

Yeah thats the thing tommyboy although that would make a badass truck it might end up costing the same thing as buying a lighting. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/pickup/163_0406_bolt/ here is a link for those of you who are curious:thumb:

I was thinking about getting a lighting too after I graduate are they really that bad on gas/mileage cause Iam sure Iam gonna be putting a lotta miles on that thing, and are they reliable at high mileage are the parts expensive when somethings gotta be changed out like from the motor or tranny???

those thing love to swallow gasoline.. but im sure u can tune ur ecu to increase ur gas mileage. For vehicle like this it isnt reccomended.. this thing was made to haul ass not save money in gas..

Hmm well if I get the job I want I dont think I would really have to worry about it cause we get truck allowances of like $300 to $450 a month, well thats what I heard form some superintendents. I dont think I woud wanna take a lighting on a construction jobsite though.. Well I guess its a tacoma then. Thanls for the replies guys.

I want to be a residential construction superintendent, and yeah thats true the truck wont be clean for long and since I always baby my rides I guess I wont choose that as a truck of interest. The thing is I think superintendents are required to have a truck and I dont want to have 2 rides so I want one nice ride. Ohwell dont really need a lighting:bawling:

I raced a Lightning back when I was 17 with my MR2. I think I suprised the guy, but in actuality it suprised me by how close he was at first. Then we did a few runs coming back to Dallas from Sherman, and I won, but it was mean and he gave me a thumbs up and stopped at the gas station when I went in for gas. He asked about my car and said it was cool and not like most little ricers he pounds. Makes me happy to hear a domestic owner that likes a car of mine.
Another time I was at Mineral wells and was laughing because I saw a whole bunch of "F-150s" racing around on the track. After cracking a few rollover jokes I was humbled by how well they were taking the course. I give a lot of respect to those truck. Those and the Powerstrokes are among my favorite trucks, but I just can't see myself driving American made. I got enough weird looks being an Asian in a Firebird. Haha. Toyota trucks for me though...good luck with w/e you decide. I was going on the verge of buying an S-Runner w/ charger until I saw the X-Runner in person. X-Runner is a very clean truck, even though I still dislike the looks of the new Tacos, but the red S-runner I saw was clean.
