He might wanna try getting a decent hobart or miller. I too was and have been in the market for a nice mig and have come to the conlcusion the hobart 140 is the best buy. I went to a couple shops and a couple friends places and by far hobart and miller were the best that I used. Lincoln was also pretty nice. I finally met someone that had a clarke mig and it was plain crap. For useful and accurate wire feed speeds and the power you want stick with the name brand. I think toolking.com and northerntool.com is having a specials on the Hobart 140 with a cart and a few other gadgets for a dent price. This welder uses the standard 3 prong plug found in most houses. If you would like to step up the power a little electrician work will be required but nothing that should break the bank.
