You might want to try a temp agency. Most of the larger companies bring people in as temps and then hire them after a few months (think of it like an extended job interview).

A bit off-topic, but if you are considering a clerical position as a long-term career, it might be a good idea to think about MS certification. We had an openng about six months ago and interviewed a dozen or so people (from a temp agency). One of the candidates had MS certification in Word and Excel. The certifications placed her head-and-shoulders above the rest of the ground and she was hired on the spot.

Again off-topic, but I think it needs to be said: many people make fun of administrative assists, but it really is a good career. Sure you start off in the low to mid-30's, but after 5 years, you can be in the 40-50's. If you're good, you can even make it into the six figures as the assistant to an executive in a major firm. That's not bad for a degree that doesn't require a college degree.

That is correct, In fact the position I was mentioning above is to fill in for one of our companies Executive Assistants, while she is in Hollywood for awhile.
