View Full Version : Get rid of the 5-min Edit timer...

That timer has already served its purpose and it's just plain annoying now. It'd be nice to post something in the Classifieds section listing a bunch of parts that you have for sale, and then go back and edit out the items that have already been sold. The way it is now, you have to add another msg to the thread indicating if an item has been sold or not, which potential buyers may or may not read. More often than not, the latter. :)

it worked again the other night and showed us something that we have been trying to figure out for awhile. So it will continue to stay. :)

please refer to this as well for further evidence on why we employ this policy.

Perhaps if moderators didn't allow for postings of that sort of thing, we wouldn't need the 5-min edit rule. Sure would sux if some prosecutor decided that this thread is admissible evidence and they decided to seize the server that hosts Houston-Imports.com. Happens all the time... if there's evidence of a crime involved, and that evidence is on a computer, that computer gets seized and you don't get jack shit back. Already happened to two people I know (one in CA, one in OR).

And there's no arguing with them either. You can just forfeit the hard drive, they take the whole damn box.

You still sure about that 5-min edit thing?

That is of course the worst case scenario. We all take risks when hosting a public forum, especially one that deals with many immature kids doing immature things. When the police come knocking on the door of the onwer of the server and of the host demanding the physical box then we can start to worry about what we will do next.

you even acknowledge that is has done its job. so what if we do remove it and people start selling stolen shit all over the board again, do we implement it again? isnt it better just to keep it there and you can deal with the minor inconvenience of having to reply about what parts are sold?

i actually have a suggestion. create an html document. host it on your site and then you can include multple pictures, thumbnails, etc and you can remove products that have been sold. all buyers can contact you via email and you can discuss prices privately. i have seen it done before and i believe it works well for selling large amounts of stuff. its of course, just a suggestion but one that might be able to work better for you since i do not believe the 5 minute rule is going anywhere.

Well... suit yourself. It was just a suggestion. I hope it catches a lot of thieves and puts them behind bars or something. :thumb:

cary was not mocking yuo!

he knows how it feels to have shiz stolen.

i just dont think he thought about stolen goods.

the average human being does not think of stealing all the time, i know that never factored into my mind, mostly because i dont know how someone could steal something that someone else worked hard for!

but youre right.

and i like youre html idea.

good call franny! i didnt think of the thievery issue!

lets help get those foos locked up!

heres another idea...instead of editing..program it so you cant edit the original post, but you can ADD to it...that way you can add SOLD to the end of things.

or make a table with a box that you can check or something..kinda like a form.

just an idea for yall to throw around!

you could also have the option to highlight text and strike it out
kind of like scientists are forced to do in laboratory notebooks. you cant erase anything,b ut you can cross it out with a single line so you can still read the original text!

:thumb:

you know...like "strikeout" option next to bold and italic in MSWORD.
