View Full Version : Need better moderation...

I've noticed there's a LOT of locked threads in some of the forums. Why? Many of these threads can easily be steered back on topic without causing people to create new threads. Tya does an excellent job of acutally moderating her forum, but I haven't seen anybody else do the same quality of moderating. Most other moderators idea of "good job" is just locking a thread.
Granted, there's a time and place for locking threads, but when you log in and view the first page of a forum and see literally 15% of the threads locked, that just has "n00b moderators" written all over it. :thumbsdow

thank you sir :)
IMO: you guys doing a great job.
opinion: don't just lock advertisements for businesses, DELETE them. and warn the bastards that don't read the sticky at the top of the sections. it's still up there and they will still be advertised...

Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about: http://www.houston-imports.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25966
The thread goes on for PAGES without one single effort at moderating the flow of debate. Oh wait there is one instance of "moderation" -- that's the last msg, and it ends with a lock. :roflmao:
I think it's because most people have real full time jobs and it's hard to keep up with some of the more spirited debates that go on in some forums. Maybe we should elect those who are unemployed for job of moderator :)

And then there's this thread: http://www.houston-imports.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26255
The last messge ends in "thread closed because it's going nowhere." Well YAH! That's because there was absolutely zero effort made by the moderators to steer it back on course. :./
:o I open them back up fawker

yeah i also thinki deleting threads as opposed to locking them is important to do.
i ALWAYS try to steer lots of topics back onto the main topic.
but im not a member so yall dont want me moderating :)
but yeah...that would make for less "NAZI MOD" fingerpointing (which i find immature, its your board, you can be a nazi if you please. you can force everyone to end each post with Heil furher if you wanted cause its YOUR forum!)

yea i agree with frog about the pointless threads going on for nothing... people just trying to accumulate post count... now we have to worry about them trying to get more STARS than everyone else. it just bumps up pointless threads covering up the more important ones... thanks for speaking out for the rest of us:thumb:

You need to get the "moderation" to work and tell them to stop slacking off
