Not sure if this is in the right section, but I figured it would get seen quicker here.
How much is a 93 TT RX-7 w/ 30k miles worth?
How expensive are repairs on these cars?
Who works on these cars here in Houston?
If you guys could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

you guys are sad. just help the guy out. that is what the forums is for, right.
How much is a 93 TT RX-7 w/ 30k miles worth? depends on the rest of the car. look it up on www.kbb.com
How expensive are repairs on these cars? there arent very many people that know how to work on them in the first place. expect most of the bill to be in labor. parts arent cheap but they wont break your pocket book.
Who works on these cars here in Houston?there is only one person in houston that i know of that can tune these cars pretty well. his name is marcus and used to own a shop called apexx back in the day. i have no idea where he can be found. maybe someone else can help you with that. there is also ari and his crew that can help set you up but they are in the dallas area

This car is not for you. We dont need another honda noob who wants to be cool, to ruin another FD.

If you have to ask, I'd hold off on buying an FD till you research all the ups and downs of rotary engines. I'd start w/ www.rx7club.com you're better off there than on this local board.
If you're looking for a used FD, try www.rotarytraderonline.com
As far as someone in the houston area that will work on your FD, there's only a few, MazdaMax being one of them, and like Raemi said, theres always Marcus Williams. He WAS working at ASAA, but I'm not sure if he's still there or not. You may also wanna try out Gotham racing in Dallas, or Rotary Performance in Garland. There's also Protech Performance in Austin.
Like I said, gather some info on these cars before you decide you want one.

before you talk down on him...just remember 97.34% of this board doesnt even know where to begin when getting an rx7. there is always time to learn. i remember when you were young and clueless about everything. you should appologize....

werd, if u have to ask then the car is not for you. stick with a civic or somethingOh ok, sorry I forgot you guys were born knowing everything there is to know about cars.
I'm not new to cars. I've built several cars before, I know what I'm doing. No, I didn't build a civic, or a prelude, or an integra. I built several Mustangs before, that were setup for drag racing. No, I'm not talking imports down and saying mustangs are God's gifts to the automotive world, its just what I chose to build.
I drive a prelude now, but its a daily driver. That's what the RX7 would be. This car will see no racing, whatsoever.
I came here looking for answers to questions about the car in general, like any person would when buying any car.
Thanks for the help, those that did. To the rest of you, don't assume that because someone shows their ignorance they are an idiot. When is the last time you built a car from the ground up?

Man, if you have to ask then you just have to ask, shit you goto to start somewhere. Mazdamax works on the rx7 and they are very knowledgable. For starters, but my advice to you is that the car requires a lot of attention and upkeep, but is well worth it from what I hear. It's almost like buying a DSM, you have to be ready for something to go wrong at the wrong time. :thumb:

you'll need to give the car a daily checkup on fluids and stuff like that, this is what i was told when I was about to buy one a few months ago. Also I think you need to replace the gaskets asap also, i'am not sure. I think the turbo is aslo crappy so that's another issue. There's a guy on these boards who gave me lots of info but i don't remember his screen name. It's a high maintance car. You can;t just jump in it and drive cross country, you got to show it some love, a lot of love.

don't do it. you'll sell it in 18 months when it pops. these cars need to be monitored constantly by someone very experienced in rotaries. better to buy an FC non turbo if you want reliable daily driver. The non turbo rotaries are VERY reliable.
heat is what kills them. you live in texas. welcome to rotary hell lol.
edit: i should also add, just go get an rx8. awesome daily driver. really fun. a lot more reliable than the FD! the fd is an old car. with that comes the problems that old cars have, except that most FD's were not properly maintained and so it will be a nightmare since nobody knew how to work on them.

Its am amazing car and probably the cheapest of the japanese super cars... but my main complaint is the distance to the nearest knowledgeable source... and the even further distance to nearest knowledgeable performance source...

Find one with a trashed motor (This should not be hard... AT ALL), yank that POS 13B-REW and swap in an LS1.

They are the easiest cars to own/work on. The motors are easily rebuilt. They are the perfect car for every 16 year old kid. Get one.

One of the weirdest things I have heard was a crazy loud ls1 in an rx7... it was like a hot chick with a man's voice.

There are quite a few rotary owners here. I'd recommend PM'ing DrKilljoy , (Keith) he's very knowledgable and is the guy in charge of the Houston RX-7 Club. He's on this board quite a bit, just not in ramblings though.
And realistically, if you really are using an FD for a daily, unfortunately, I'd have to agree and say go w/ the LS1. Not my bag, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I almost went with an SR20DET in my FC though..... "almost"

^^^ this man knows what it's like to own a rotary!!!
most of his friends have/had rotaries. The require a REALLY good mechanic who keeps tabs on the car. If you are willing to check your oil every gas fillup and check your fluids and not drive it too hard and make sure to listen to the motor to make sure everythings okay (assuming you nkow what its sposed to sound like)
thats great.
but seriously an FD is NOT a good daily driver.
Get a civic. Rotaries are not known for their great gas mileage.

ah kids these days, ill let keith jump in but here are my answers (having owned a fb, fc, and part of the local rotary club here in houston)
1. depends, what condition is the motor/body? what has it been used for? etx id so 20kish tops
2. yes, labor will kick your ass on these unless you learn to work on them yourself, it is in general a pain to get to anything
3. Maz-max, ask for brian, only guy i trust really with rotaries in houston (www.maz-max.com)
honestly for the money i would get a rx-8 or get a 2nd gen, in general they are more relyable and easier to work on. IF you have your heart set on a fd i would (sigh) say v8 or get a rebuild with a single and some relyablity mods
www.rx7club.com <--- can find anything you want to know on there

BTW - I daily drive mine. Gas mileage sucks though. Its really not that bad otherwise. But this is coming from a person who works as a mechanic. Hell, I have a second engine on my patio Im about to rebuild for fun(comes apart this weekend). Just dont beat the shit out of it and do stupid stuff like up the boost all crazy and it wont be too bad to you.

Nope. I really did go buy it on a whym. Hell, I was about to go buy a white 94 C4 and that day just happened to search for an rx7 (for shits and giggles). Found one for $11k (well in my price range) and in running condition. I'd always wanted and never expected to actually own an FD. I bought it the next day. The last I had done research on rotaries was 3 or 4 years ago when I was 16, when I wanted a TII. I didnt even read a single thread in the 3rd gen section until AFTER I bought the car. :hs:
