Ok so i got my tranny apart today and found the broken gear (see 1st first pic) . Well i don't know what gear this is or what it's actually called but it is the bottom gear that meets with the differential. So i have a couple choices, i can get a gsr tranny from a friend for $200 but it has no 3rd gear and use it for parts to rebuild this one or that one, or can i buy this gear from honda (maybe) and replace it myself, or i can take it to a tranny shop or i can scrap this tranny all together.

By the way this is a 93 acura integra ys1 cable tranny.

What is y'alls opinion on this ? Also if anyone knows what this gear is called or if i can buy it from anywhere and how much please let me know.

this is my first time working on the internals of a tranny so what do y'all think about the way the rest of it looks (see pic 2-3)? To me it looks like everything is new but i dunno maybe all tranny's look this way inside.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just noticed that there are three or four teeth broken on the diff gear also.

C'mon people...all lurkers and no response. Has to be someone that knows what he is talking about.

That gear is built onto the countershaft, so to replace it, you would need a new (used) shaft.

If the gsr transmission has a bad third gear synchro, use the LS synchro. If it is missing the whole gear, use the LS transmission and swap the gsr countershaft into it.

the first broken gear is part of the countershaft. As James said, you will need a whole new cs. You will also need a new ring gear for the diff since teeth are missing.

good countershafts for GSR transmissions are hard to find now days.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess I will buy that transmission from him. About the ring gear for the diff is it possable to take it out of the other tranny and put it in this one if I have to? Is the ring gear for the diff the big gear that is touching the smaller broken one on the counter shaft in the picture?

The ring gear is the gear on the differential which is touching the teeth of the countershaft. You will be able to take everything you need from the spare transmission.

BTW... ring gear bolts are reverse.. so dont follow the lefty loosey, righty tighty rule for those.

be sure the ring gear and countershaft you use are designed for one another.

How will i do that? As far as i know my broken tranny is a 93 ys1 (ls), the one i can get for $200 is a 93 ys1 GSR. So will those work together?

Should i just use the gear or synchro (whichever one is needed) from my tranny, to fix the gsr tranny?

the best thing to do is what you said. Use the synchro from the LS tranny to fix the GSR tranny. You must use the GSR ring gear with the GSR countershaft, whatever you do.

have you changed out stuff like that before?

alright i'll probably do that (just try to fix the gsr).

But no, i have never worked on the internals of a transmission . Money is tight so i guess it's time to learn how lol. me and my helms manuel and h-i.
