Ford bows to GM pressure; matches deals
Reuters
Jul. 5, 2005 - Ford Motor Co. <F.N>, bowing to pressure from General Motors Corp. <GM.N>, said on Tuesday that it was matching its larger, cross-town rival's employee discount program.
Under the program, which takes effect on Wednesday and will be called the "Ford Family Plan," Ford will shave thousands of dollars off the sticker prices of most 2005 model vehicles, company spokesman David Reuter said.
The program will run through Aug. 1, he said. Like the GM plan, Ford will sell its vehicles to anybody at the same low prices Ford employees pay.
"It's a great deal that we're going to deliver in a simple, consistent way to customers," Reuter said. "We're going to advertise this widely, in a huge significant way throughout the month."
The Chrysler unit of DaimlerChrysler <DCX.N> <DCXGn.DE> has said it will respond to GM's program by rolling out its own employee pricing program on Wednesday.
GM's "Employee Discount for Everyone" program was launched last month and the company extended it through Aug. 1 earlier on Tuesday. It drove GM's sales up 41 percent in June, which was the company's best sales month in 19 years.
Ford, which has seen its U.S. sales fall for 13 consecutive months, can ill afford not to remain competitive with GM. It has already warned that its core automotive operations may not be profitable this year.

What exatcly is a employee discount? You don't know the prices of these car's anyways. They could say anything cheaper than what's on the window and it could be considered "EMPLOYEE PRICE".
Those ADS where they tell you that you save $5000 - $10,000 on the car which is the biggest BS ever how the hell do you save $10,000 dollars I mean come on.
Such an inflation its ridiculous. "SALES" Technique. Then once they get you into your store they will try to sell you something you totally don't even want.
Dealer games screw them.

chevy advertises 10,000 dollars of, it refers to suburbans and tahoes. My friends dad just bought a tahoe for 29,000 and the sticker was 38,000. i know thats only 9000 but with the suburban u can get 10 off the price...
damnit wheres the subaru employee pricing :)

I don't think the Mustang will be subject to it. If so only the v-6 model.

Well, I work for a car dealership (Nissan) and I wanted you guys to know that your absolutely right about all this BS! I WORK for a dealership and I'm sick of it!!!! Employee pricing this and employee pricing that...there is one dealership in our area that had an ad this weekend that said, Äll other dealerships have employee pricing, but WE HAVE ACCESS TO SUPPLIER PRICING!!! SAVE THOUSANDS OVER EMPLOYEE PRICING!!!" I almost threw my radio across the room! It's this kind of BS that makes everone DISTRUST car dealerships!!! Why can't people just come in, pick out a car that they like and get a fair price for it? We have our invoice price that we paid for the car, and we have what the manufacturer suggest we sell it for. How about everyone pays $500 over invoice and make it easy? Well, our dealership is doing that. None of the sales staff is paid on comission either, so you don't have to fight a salesman over price anyway. I don't care what you pay for the car, as long as you like it and think it will work for you. Simple, simple, simple. I am sick of this BS and I think that it should stop. But the reason that it won't is the general public is nieve when it comes to buying a car. $10,000 off a suburban. talk about kill your resale value...come on people. Just make it simple. :eek3dance

That's the least they could sell it for. My uncle owns a few car dealerships. In Phoenix, AZ - noticed you were from Tempe ... Randy Hyden is his name. Anyway he told me the car companies told him the cheapest he could even sell cars to family/close friends were for $500 over invoice - don't know why but that's just what he told me.....Plus why sell for only $500 over invoice, I mean honestly if you invested millions into a car dealership wouldn't you want to pay off the cost of it asap and make a high profit margin. Why lower the price if people are willing to pay thousands over what they get it for? That just doesn’t make sense at all for an owner to do.

the whole reason all of the American car makers are doing this is b/c they are being KILLED by the Japanese....Especially now that they are getting more into the suv & truck market....So yeah you probably wont see any "employee" pricing for subaru, acura, nissan or w/e anytime in the near future...I can't see it happening EVER.
