View Full Version : My Type S is having tranny probs.
Not sure where this should be....Move if needed please.
Since the RSX has been out, the 6 speed tranny is notorious for having problems. Around 5K miles the tranny starts to grind 2nd gear on it's own when you shift to 2nd. When you shift to 3rd gear sometimes it doesnt go in all the way and "pops" back out causing you to grind.
Now i have to take it back to the dealer soon to get it looked at. Hopefully those bitches take care of it under warranty, which they should.
Only problem is my dad will be like this:
"It's a new car. How can a new car mess up like that? You did it, you messed it up!!"

my freinds type s did the same thing at like 8k he left it at the dealership , and they didnt cover him under warranty so his dad had to pay like 4000.00 or 5000.00 for a new one , the dealership screwed him royaly . they said it was b/c he raced the car . :thumb:
That's fucking gay. I hear the same problem occurs with the 6th gen Accords. Makes me not want to buy a Honda. :yeahno:

Mine does that sometimes, but for the most part it's ok. I make sure that I make precise shifts to avoid anything like that.

By that, you mean move the shifter in straight lines? What's up with Honda and their reliability? Has it gone to shit?

Blackrsx has had a type S for a long time, 50k+ miles. Recently his started to have the same problem. With proper shifting the car is less likely to have that happen.
Not to say the tranny isnt weak.

My 3rd gear does the same thing sometimes...it feels like it isnt engaged all the way and sometimes it pops out. I took it to the dealer and they test drove it and said "We were unable to replicate the problem." It's fine most of the time but they act like I was making that shit up....drive the damn car everyday like I do and tell me there isn't something wrong with the 3rd gear. Fuckers...oh well, like I said it only happens sometimes but if u can get the dealer to fix it, it is covered by warranty and they are aware there is a problem. There was a service bulletin about it. Search the ClubRSX forums.

nonetheless what you all do, you shouldnt have to do because we should not expect this from honda. i think they have a recall going on for yall's car.. get it replaced.. funny thing is that honda doesnt seem to budge and fix the problems w/ the replacements. its same shit all back to square 1 until it craps out.. really ticks me. you know why? cuz honda made some shitty ass trannys for our v6 accords as well. and till to this day they have yet to fix one problem.. they are wasting money and my time.. really i love my car to death but you know it doess make sense that maybe just spend a lil research money and get the problems FIXED in their recall units instead of replacing it w/ same shitty design.

My original tranny had problems, but it was rebuilt under TSB and its all good now, and i have 60K on the car pushing alot of power....And my dealership is EXCELLENT. Never give me any shit about anything, and my engine is built (cams, valvetrain ect.) and they dont say a thing, even though its idiling and lobbing at 1400 rpms...lol

My 02 RSX did that. They fixed it under warranty. My 04 RSX has never had any problems with the tranny(12.5K).
It was a bigger problem with 02's and early 03's.

Champion acura...
I know my stuff and i've searched all over CRSX. A lot of them over at CRSX got their tranny fixed under warranty, but they had to push the dealer into doing so. My dealer didnt even give me any free oil chances, bitches :o. My dad is coming in from offshore tomorrow and i think i'll present to him the problem with the tranny. I just hope he doesnt blame it on me :wompwomp: .
Usually the problem with the tranny only happens when i first drive it. When the tranny is not warmed up. I figure by the time i drive over to the dealer the problem wont be there anymore because the tranny is warmed up enough.

complain to acura.. honda REALLLY REALLLY! takes care of its customer. ive heard very good positive results as well as i worked at honda service in my past and i know for a fact honda takes care of its customer. one time a person was not satisfied with the car because of some xxx? problem. 2 days later they upgraded his basic warranty to 7yrs engine/powertrain no questions asked.
if its a problem you think should be fixed under the bulletin and they are giving a problem and you let me know your concern THEY WILLL help you from A to Z. just let your dad talk:) listening lil teenagers inexperienced= meow meow meow meow

My auto tranny went out on my 2k1 civic at 91000 miles. =/ I did the service's like it said and it still went out.. they guy from j g performance said I must have drove the shit out of it... but honestly I didn't. I know it is slow already so I don't even try to go fast. I think HONDA sucks at transmission period.

have u tried letting ur car warm up a bit first before u drive? or do u just start it and go? if its like that then thats y its grinding. let the fluids circulate the engine before driving. the "2nd gear grind" issue with the rsx occurs ALL the time, even after the car is warmed up. but if u want, take it to gillman or john eagle acura. they have excellent service there.

Just curious, does this only happen on the Type-S Transmission? What about the Type-R? Or the 5spds?

Honestly i think it has alot to do with driving style... the 02-03 tranny's had problems with oil squiters not oiling the gears correctly. The 04 and 05's have fixed that problem. BUT acura uses brass syncros which get torn up pretty easily if abused. My 02 tranny lasted 60k no problems....And i just got an '05 2 days ago and im babying the hell out of the tranny breaking her in....

Simple.
1) Drive your car up to the dealership and park it.
2) Have friends come pick you up.
3) Go see a shitty movie so your in a pissed off mood
4) Return to dealership
5) Show them the problem since it is now cooled.
And hopefully the don't try to screw you...which ofcorse most of the time they will because warenty work makes them lose money and they hate that.

my honda accord 02 has 46,000 miles and I think my transmission might be causing some problems right now. It doesn't grind or anything but in seems like it takes forever to shift. It was acting really weird one day and the car cuts out at a low mph.
