61,xxx miles on my 98' honda accord and my tranny goes out.

it slips in first gear and drops into neutral on its own every once in a while. when it does decide to shift if jerks the whole car really hard. 1st to 2nd hear it doesn't shift until 6,XXX RPM. :(

i called honda of america to complain, they assigned me a case number and i have to take it to john eagle tommorrw so they can see if they will cover the costs for me. otherwise, i have to take it to get rebuilt... ($1250 :eek3: )

does anyone know someone that has a 98-02 V6 transmission for sale? or does cheap work for rebuilding?

oh if this should be in car talk or something...move it please. didn't know where to post...

buy one from a junkyard.

edit: saw that you called a few places. But many junkyards dont have listed numbers. Go drive up and down airport.

98 accord V6 trannys had alot of problems. I thought there was some recall on it or TSB on the trannies.

01-02 had an official recall, but 98-00 never did. in some cases they're doing a good faith thing to pay for the repairs...that's what i'm hoping for. i don't know why they never recalled the 98-00, they all suck anyways.

Just curious, how often did you have your transmission fluid changed, and how? Was it a simple drain+refill, or one of those $100 dealer machine flushes? Did you use genuine honda ATF?

I've *heard* that the machine flushes are not *good* for the Honda transmissions, but I dunno if it's bullshit or not (or whether or not the bad cases had to do with ATF that hadn't been changed in 90k+ miles)

I read a lot about 98-02 v6 trannies taking dumps, but never get to see how much/little the owners actually change the ATF. If Honda does fix ur car for free, I highly recommend getting an auxiliary trans cooler, hooking it up downstream from the stock one (built into radiator), and change the ATF more often. I myself change the ATF every other oil change on my '02 I4, and have been running a B&M tranny cooler for almost 2yrs now. Hopefully I won't have probs, since I auto-x almost every week :hs:

You need to call Skip at Bottom Line or Superstar on Airline. You'll find it there and cheap.

i hear it's mostly the v6 transmission, not the 4cyl. i did change my ATF a few months ago w/ Honda ATF ($12 a quart :eek3: ) and that helped a little. (full machine flush) but my dad did it at the shop, not at the dealership.

we got rid of our accords, cause the value of our cars was about the same as it would cost to have the repairs done

my dad's friend is taking care of it...i had to get the whole thing rebuilt. he said that the clutch was grinding on metal...something like that.

i would try replacing the solenoids/speed spenors/etc. before taking it apart. generally, people charge around $1500 to rebuild...I would send you to my dad's friend but he wouldn't really cut you a deal, but i do guarantee he does good work and gives a 1 year/12,000mi warranty.

nope, they claimed that my "Front end collision" caused the axles to cause pressure on the transmission, which in turn caused it to break?

:dunno:
