6k rpm launch, broken upgraded gearset...

I had a version 6 STi-RA gearset installed on my 02 WRX. The gearset was supposed to be good until about 400hp. Well lets just say a 6k rpm launch with about 400hp/tq shattered first gear like glass. I spun all 4 til about 40 mph, about to shift into second and boom! I still owe $2000 for that tranny, and I am in need of another one...oh transmission woes... :bawling: Guess the black WRX will be out of commission for a while people. Sorry to bring the bad news... :bawling:

dang dude you are hardcore with the launches. I'm not sure if any transmission is designed to be able to survive that kind of launch.

Maybe Wally or Orlando can provide some words of wisdom.

How did you break 1st if you shifted into 2nd? 2nd is more of a culprit to break, especially since you're spinning all four off the line. The reason why 2nd breaks is because people like you don't know how to shift it right.

Good luck with it. Go JDM 6spd or dogbox. The RA gears aren't all that great when you start making some good power. So I don't see how you broke it.

Isnt the point or a launch to give your car the right amount of hp & tourque to the wheels so they HOOK UP and you take off faster? Not to spin them? I dont know? :violin:
