Couple questions. Would a supercharger be better for drift? I mean... Instant power to the wheels... Wouldnt it make more sense? This would be going on an 87 supra for drifting.
On a different car topic. For a v6 swap miata that is going to be for autocross which would be better? Turbo or supercharger. Which is more economical as well?
Please explain alittle so I can learn and know alittle more. Thanks

7mgte swap on oldschool supra would be best for drifting since most people with supras go that route......... turbo on a v6 is a little harder than it sounds your most likely going to be using a supercharger setup if you can afford it... gl

I knew the v6 would be a hard task. I just was looking for perhaps some detail as to which ones are better or worse. I was hoping for alittle detail and explaination as to why and what not.

there's articles about both on there. your question is too general to be answered in a forum post

So now I know alot about supercharhers and turbos.... why would the super charger be better for drifting is it gives power and doesnt have a lag? Why is the turbo used more in drifting? is it just because its easier to put on the car or is it better to use in drifting and why? Hope I narrowed this quest down abit.

turbo can usallt make more power
plus they can be upgradeted easily
and superchrachers are usally more expensive

on a turbo what your gona run into is power spiking. on a turbo car in wheel spin situations the engine will have a tough time making good part throttle power. ina supercharger application the best way i can think to put it is that your right foot is more directly linked to power output, you can get much better part throttle response ect witha sc. in drag where traction isnt a problem then the turbo will be more dominant. my .02

Personally, if I want boosted power I don't want it belt driven, just my .02

second that, superchargers do not make instant boost , that is the biggest crock of shit out there, especially centrifugal units, a properly built turbo system will make more low end power. not to mention the fact that to make 100hp on a supercharger your engine is actually making about 150 hp! turbos are "free" hp. a supercharger on ly makes max power at max RPM where as a turbo can make max HP a lot lower and maintain it to redline , especially the new GT series from garret. for drifting you obviously dont want to run a huge turbo because you will have problems maintainig throttle response. i drive a STI and and it has MAD midrange as well as decent top end, but the throttle response is excellent. Superchargers are best suited for drag racing and even then they dont out perform turbos, this is why in the NMRA the turbo cars are penalized to slow them down and allow the supercharger/NOS guys a chance to keep up, in some classes the turbo cars have a 400lb weight penalty and even with the weight they still dominate!!!

why v6 the miata? V8 has been done alot and is easier at this point (motor mount, subframe, kits on the market). More power about the same weight to with the ford 302 aluminum block.
mazda did build a test mule with a duratec V6

That engine is already in third gens, so why would he swap it?

why on earth if you are going to be autoX'ing would you even want a V6 and turbo/supercharger??? you don't leave second gear!! you would also be put into an unlimited class, competing with cars that have super crazy suspensions that you would have absolutely no chance of even keeping up with.
geez, do you fucking people even know what autoX is???

i figured he would be 7mge not 7mgte i would swap it with a 1JZ or 7mgte just cause they are turbo(not sure if the 1jz is or not)... im not too much of a toyota guru but id figure doing a complete turbo swap would be easier?

boost is boost no matter how you get it. yes with a turbo the HP is "free", and yes the supercharger takes HP to make it. but the supercharger makes more HP that it takes. just my 2cent
