H-I is my last resort but here I am asking for help.

Ive got a 96 y8 head with brand new head gasket, intake manifold gasket. Factory head bolts. Vtec solenoid is NOT hooked up. Running of a A6 intake manifold and A6 distributor. Y8 timing belt.
Its making a wierd noise as if something were inside my engine. It sounds like something is horrendously wrong and im scared to drive it. Sounds like something is very very wrong

I hear the sound from start up all the way to 6.5k rpm. Im afraid to drive it. I have not took the valve cover off to check it. Although its not 100% constant, it is mainly when the throttle is opened wide really fast. A very very slow rev it wont make the noise. Sound comes from around the left side.

Im getting the head work done from a guy I know locally and he owns a "shop". He said he test drove it and it didnt make the noise but when I got it, it made the noise. Hes going to check it out and see what it is, but im wondering if anyone knows what it is because I have the car for a little bit.

any help is appreciated

ill say ive put premium in it, changed oil, checked valve clearance, all of it is good.

please help :(

check it out... Most of the time, it can be your rod bearings.. U can change it out.. its cheap.. take off the oil pan and all the shield.. YOu will see the rods, crankshaft etc.. the bearing is located on the loop of the rod.. to rotate it you can turn the pulleys. to check, push it up and down, if it moves up and down, then ur bearings are bad.. it should be able to shake side ways but not up and down.. If u do decide to change it, make sure u have a torque wrecnch and set it at about 35lb of torque. umm second. if its not it.. It can be your timing belt tensioner.. but it is rarely that case.. cause it only make the sound at low rpm to like about 3000. and last of all can be ur lifters... lifter makes loud knocking noise and u can hear it through the valve cover.. that is easy to fix... Get the tools for it.. and tight it.. If the motor have that much compression to get that high of RPM.. the valve is still good.. piston is good... piston o ring is good.. SO u have a minor problem.. does not cost much to fix..

it would help if you desribe the noise. but yeah, sounds like a rod bearing.

and don't listen to the guy telling you to do it in the car. it only takes a couple hours to pull a honda motor, do it right. assembling bottom ends is NOT something you should do half ass.

the shop you have it at will take care of you.

the shop you have it at will take care of you.
they did, but they are stumped.

Valve clearance is good and up to spec. I dont see how it could be a rod bearing when this noise happend only after the head swap.

An update is that I hooked vtec up and when it engages it doesnt make the noise much at ALL. So im thinking its the rocker shaft.

Any other help?

edit- noise sounds like a metal tap at the rpm (high rpm fast tap, low rpm hard/slow tap) Just to reemphasize this is only at Wide Open Throttle.

bad or broken valve spring.

bad or broken valve spring.
Not trying to be mean or anything but do you have any info that would lead you to that conclusion?
