I was wondering how much hp and torque a stock transmission can take? I have not found any info on this topic except axles and diffs. Lets say its a LS tranny. I already know what the differential can take so you dont need to tell me about that. So how much can the gears and hub sleeve take? Ive tried searching for performance gears and couldnt find anything for honda trannys online. I guess I was looking in the wrong places if there is a real place to get these parts from. Also can you get longer gears for an LS or is there a tranny with longer gears that you can put on a b18a/b?
So recap on what Id like to know and if you have any other input about this topic Id greatly appreciate it. :thumb:
1) How much hp and torque LS transmission gears and hub sleeves can hold? Is this something to worry about when you go turbo?
2) Where can you get upgraded transmission parts and at what kind of power are they needed at?
3) Can you make first and second gears longer or all the gears? First and second seem a little short for a turbo engine. Or is there another tranny that you can bolt up to a b18a/b that has longer gears?

The stock stuff can take quite a pounding. They do not like wheel hop too much though. Check this site out it might be a little helpful w/ parts.

it's all in how you drive it. there's guys making 800+ whp who baby the hell out of their trannies and make them last, and people with 80whp that beat the shit out of them and break em in a week.
but for the average person, anything over 400whp is gonna start giving you problems with the synchros. anything over 500-600 and you'll be smashing gears.

I put motor mount inserts in and preload my axles and i dont break nothing. I also stay away from those rough ass full race clutches, they wreck havok on the blocker rings.

Just got to set the turbo up right, take advantage of the short gears, but you will have a fun time with finding a cable b16 lsd tranny, i cant find any for a good deal.

i was told the diff pin was the weak link in the all 90-93 b-series trannies.the newer trannies came with a stronger steel diff pin over the earlier ones.anyone heard of "mistabone" on a few other forums he is a tranny guru and knows his shit about this.

Something else must have been going on.. we made 687whp 512tq on an ITR trans and it was holding fine on the dyno and at the track.

Yea it should have held up easily... Like any other b series honda tranny would with that power.
