AEM EMS is fresh on SGP's mind because Mark and Kyle recently went to AEM's training class.

Give Kyle a call at SGP, I'm sure you will be happy with the results.

Sgp all the way, their dynopack will make tuning quicker and easier. It may not be cheap ,but remember you get what you pay for.

your motor was already broken when you got there, then you try to blame them even when they replaced it for you. I am one of there customers and always will be.

Already broken? Really? did you know the history of the motor? were you there? were you in the car when he blew it up??
Let me guess.. This was told to you.... perhaps by them??
I stated my experience.. You can state yours about them scammers if you want to.. You had better luck with them, or u might be on of their 'buddies', unfortunately I didn’t have that luck nor did they take responsibility.
By the way, please don’t invent or say stuff that you actually don’t know about other people... I got all the pm's from them and not once they claimed it was already broken because they knew it wasn’t! The motor detonated 'twice' like a mofo and he didn’t do any adjustments after the first 'big' detonation warning, 10 secs later the motor exploded on their second attempt after a second massive detonation.. I was there and I could hear the detonation like if I had and stethoscope connected from the engine to my ears.. Yes it was that loud.. And you say it was already broken?
Sorry Na8cDrIfT if I went overboard in this second post, but I can’t stand people that give false information especially when it’s about me or my things.
yes, they replaced the engine... after i paid $2000+ in parts and labor to them... for a SOC

I have an AEM on my turbo civic... I got it tuned by CARBOY, the guy know AEM inside out and CARBOY is the ONLY one I trust with tunning my car. The car drives great and he doesn't make you tune it out on the street putting others in danger, and he doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for tunning. Your car will be tuned on the dyno and he will take as long as it take and as many runs as it take on the dyno and not charge you over. Well good luck with your decision and hope everything works out for you.

Why dont you ask Mikerex about his motor experience with Inline. Do you know of any shop that will rebuild an all motor ls-vtec pushing 241 whp sae corrected for free after it blew up? Maybe there were other circumstances reguarding your situation that you are not telling everyone. There are a hand full of people that I would have tune my car if I had aem ems Huy Tran is at the top of that list. Who better to trust other than the guy with the fastest all-motor hatch in houston. He pulled more power out of a chipped ecu than Jason did when Huy brought his car to him to see what he could do with Hondata. Inline Racing all the way.
But out of the shops you listed, SGP would have my money.

no one.
DO it yourself. Many people here in town that have tuned their own miata be it with FM Link ECUs, Tec II/III, and Haltec. Look up info on the AEM forum as well Look for BlackMajic. Feel free to get intouch with me also
There are also a couple of people in San Antonio that have messed with AEM units.
Mark P comes to mind
no one.
DO it yourself.
If these reputable shops have blown up engines (all except for SGP, might I add) then a n00b tuner sure will. The guy's got a turbo and I can't recommend him running a wideband w/ datalogger and tuning on the street without knowing his experience.

Everyone has to start somewhere. I have seen "GOD" tuners blow motors, and have seen "n00b" tuners tune "advanced" ecu's make lots of power and have their cars last years.
There is enough miata information for him to learn. Some of us dont like being tied to one shop. I'm sorry why i'm i going to pay someone to tune my car when I can do it?
I have "rough" tuned my car. it makes decent power and I have fun. Hell I can provide him with "base" settings for him to tune on his own. And when I say tune on his own the does not mean on the street or off. where he decides to do that is his own business.

While you're right, most "GOD" tuners have gone to training classes and probably tinkered a bit with an N/A car. I'm a huge proponent to DIY, btw, but you have too much faith in FAQs for beginners.
Base maps should be ok, tho. But without a wideband and datalogging, he's just doing his seat-of-the-pants best guess.
If someone is willing to pay $500 for an exhaust that frees up 12hp, surely they'd have dyno tuning in their budget to free up 20 more.

The FAQ's taught me. Reading my manual taught me. Playing with the software taught me. My friends taught me. My vendor also took the time to review maps with me and comment on them.
if you are going to shell out that much then you can buy a wideband for your own use on this car and future cars.
I'm not saying he is going to be an 'expert", I know I am not, but that does not mean he will blow his car up. Plus you learn by doing and from whta I know he seems like he knows what he is doing.

What I was trying to so was just for him to look up miata resources, there are a lot, as well as a very educated forum. And see if he feels comfortable doing it.
If not then go somewhere, but give it a shot before he did.

if you've messed with the AEM before, you know how highly complicated it is. I would NEVER recommend someone attempt to tune it themselves with no previous tuning experience, that's just asking for trouble.

true true when mike blew his motor I know inline backed it up with another one for free. That bad ass, there is more to the story then what your trying to tell everybody. Its like everytime your online and someone is asking about shops in town your the first person to bash on them. All I know is when my motor blew up I called him up on a sunday and he went out of his way to fix my 2 piston. Keep up the good work INLINE :thumb:

no matter where you take it, no matter what you do, don't try to do it yourself. AEM is very complicated, not for the novice tuner. Any of the shops listed above can probably do a very good job for you.

whoa..be careful saying stuff like this, it can easily be taken the wrong way. We (Inline) like Jason and respect his tuning abilities...the man has mad skills. On that particular car, we had already logged well over 100pulls and tuned it to the absolute max then asked Jason if he could try and squeeze any more out. The car was already making 230whp on a NA B16...there wasn't much more to be made. He gave it hell. I don't think god himself was going to make even 1 more hp out of that car!!
do your homework, call the shops. every shop has people who like them and people that don't. you have to decide for yourself. good luck!
Louie
