This is pretty badass. I just got my tranny rebuilt by TRE so I figured I'd post up in here and say hi.

Since my tranny was in such bad shape I actually bought one of their TRE remanufactured transmissions. Here is the rebuild they performed on my reman tranny...

New improved high friction 1-5th synchros. Faster shifts at much higher rpms than stock synchros.

New 1st-2nd & 3rd-4th hub & sleeves. Shot peened for strength. No more shattered sleeves.

New 1st-2nd & 3rd-4th forks. These are factory OEM and they hold up great, the modifications that we perform on the gearsets greatly reduce the strain on the shift forks & rails.

New modified double synchro 2nd gearset. This modified gearset is proven to take shifts above 9500rpm and the synchronizers will outlast the factory synchro by 60%

New Input shaft bearings

New intermediate shaft bearings

New needle bearings under 1st -5th gears.

New oil seals

New synchro keys

New synchro key springs

New center differential shims

New heavy duty Neodymium trash magnet, oil filter and magnetic drain plug. Keeps the oil clean.

New snap rings, roll pins, end nuts, bearing shims and all the other non-reusables that you would expect to be replaced in a quality rebuild.

Enlarged oil passages. This makes for a cooler running better shifting longer lasting transmission.

All gears & shafts stress relieved and modified for durability. You will only find this work being done here @ TRE.

Additional machine work is also done that'll make it shift great and last for a long time.

Glass beading of transmission case, NOW FREE!!! Your transmission will look like new.

Here were all of the tranny parts before I sent them off to TRE in the big blue bucket you see in the background. Also just for reference, a DSM tranny weighs 125lbs and costs $65 to ship to Michigan through FedEx ground.

The original reason I had to get a rebuild was because I broke my stock center diff after installing a Clutch Masters Stage 3 Kevlar clutch. Here is picture of the old center diff...

To prevent my center diff from breaking again I purchased a Speed Design 4-spider center diff (stock has 2 spider gears) from TRE.

4-spider center diff on TRE's website - 2 (http://www.teamrip.com/images/2%20vs%204.jpg)

Here is my actual center diff that TRE sent me

I'm still breaking it in and having some trouble shifting but I think something in my clutch/flywheel assembly is messed up as opposed to the actually tranny itself. Hopefully I'll get it fixed soon. Hooray for transmissions!

It would have had to be a 1st gen 23 spline tranny, and it probably didn't come with the center diff which means I would have gone through with installing it. What was done to it?

Thanks. I think it could possibly be my flywheel. I took it to DSA to get resurfaced (was skeptical) and it was the only job they did for me. I just hope their machine shop put it at the correct step height. Other possibities for poor shifting include improper shimmed pivot ball and bad shift fork (a DSM friend told me they can get weak and start to lose travel when under pressure). I really don't want to take the tranny off but I've pretty much exhausted all other options.

Oh I also forgot to include the picture of when it came back. Nice and complete. :thumb:

Who actually installed your tranny... or did you do it yourself?

BOOSTonU installed my tranny and he did it fairly quick since he's done quite a few of them. Installation went pretty smooth for the most part and shifting was very rough in the beginning and has smoothed out but is still a bit notchy. Notchy enough in fact that I've broken a shift cable by pulling too hard on the shifter when the tranny didn't want to go into gear. I don't want to say anything is wrong with the tranny at this point because TRE is so big on clutch installation and adjustment.

In fact check out this paper they send out with their tranmsissions to make sure that you treat them properly...

In fact I think I'll make a new thread about it because it's such good information.

Transmissions give me a hard on.

That's pretty nice. I like the pics you took of the inside of your tranny. It's one of the parts of the car that i'm still sorta lost on. I know generally what it's supposed to do, but i'm lost on how it really does it. GG :thumb:

Right now they do volkswagens and dsms... but they are going to do toyotas, subarus, and evos.

That tranny was $1450+shipping but that was with my core and also I already purchased a 4-spider center diff and it was deducted from the price as well.

And no Evo's are not DSM"s, lol.
