I'm considering just picking up a P28 and having it chipped. I've already got an O2 sim but I'm kinda debating installing it because I might go this route and pick up a few ponies while I'm at it. I'm just looking for your impression of the programs that they offer. I'm just running a bolt on B16A2. :thumb:

just talk to Peter. I have a p28 that he chipped for my h22. He only has 2 programs for my motor but has several for b-series.

I would personally say no to any sort of chipped ECU. I can understand if the program was from any actual editing software such as Crome, TurboEdit, Uberdata, or Hondata. In these cases a chipped ecu is one that has carefully been tuned to a specific customers specs. It is virtually impossibile to keep using the same programs in similar cars. Each and every car is different no matter how similar the setups.
Not to take business away from any shop or anything, but i can tell you any one who tunes anything will agree that each car needs to be tuned indvidually.

Decided on Hondata S100, it'll be about the same price anyway.

Ive disassembled several "performance" chips from a variety of different sources. I found some pretty suprising stuff.. Some chips are simply stock chips with the VTEC points moved and revlimits raised.
Some other things I have found..
Dangerously advanced timing maps
Rev limits removed or raised to unsafe levels
Fuel maps increased so far the injectors are static
Sensors disabled (not that big of deal for race cars.. kinda important for daily drivers)
Just plain nonsense that barely runs the car
I would have to say unless the chip was tailored for your specific mods there is a good chance you can do damage to your engine. Be careful with what you choose to run your car with.

pyr are good some ecu but not all they killed one of my ecu and i had to bring it back so they can fix it and even after that i had to buy a new ecu so i would watch it with them.

it's stupid to get your ECU chipped with a program that hasn't been dyno tested to your exact setup.
Most good tuners will tune a car with a chipped ECU, but using some sort of chip emulator so they can tune on the fly using a computer program. Once the car is tuned correctly on the dyno, with a computer program which emulates the chip, the tuner will burn the exact specs onto a chip to put in the ECU. Then the ECU will know exactly how to run the car according to who tuned it.
that being said, it's dumb to expect some generic chipped ECU to run your setup the correct way.

so why do you think Hondata is so much better? (It does have advantages, depending on your point of view.)

my chipped ECU does just fine:)
it really depends how the chip come about. My car is tuned using a laptop, ROM emulator, and a chipped ECU. Once we get the car running the way we want it on the dyno, we burn a chip to run the car the exact same way.
most chips are junk, though. read st00pid's post to understand why. he hit the nail on the head.

you know what i meant Mike  its no good if you're using someone else's tune on your motor :eh: blahblah
cant get any better explanation than what Jason said :roflmao:

i was thinking it would be 12038012308x better than a PYR chip considering if you were boosting u could get some dyno time in and tune it to your precise needs. but ive heard uberdata works good too, i was thining about chipping my ECU at one time but i figured i would wait till i pieced my turbo together with my grad money and include hondata in the list, and maybe get some extra cash to tune it since i heard its possible to get 300hp outa a stock LS boosted with the right turbo setup.

I can vouch for that, i downloaded some of the "mugen" programs and opened them and looked at the tables, horribly advanced ignition and the fuel tables were often carried over from 4500 and stayed the same. Im always on pgmfi.org and we often have discussions over these chips, what junk. Dyno, a wideband, a rom emulator, and a datalog capable ecu is the only way to go.

i asked autologic becuase i whanted to get it done by jason but they told me he wasnt doing turbo edit at the moment.
ps. jason,if you can let me know asap.thanx
There are a few shops in the area that do uberdata or something like that tuned for each individual car. I had Speed Fetish chip my turbo hatch with a p28. They did a street tune with a motec wideband and datalogger. Runs awsome and i havent had any problems.
