it could just be a front though so then can come in at the last minute and sign him; also if you read the article it says the mets reportedly offered a 8-year deal to beltran. But i looked everywhere on the ny daily news and could not find proof of it. :thumb:

According to the N.Y. Daily News the Mets, during their Puerto Rico visit, could offer Beltran an 8-year deal totaling as much as $140 million.

No it wouldn't. George S. has made offers to Boston free agents just to up their asking price from Boston management before.
