HOUSTON (AP) -- The Houston Rockets, off to a 13-15 start, traded shooting guard David Wesley along with power forwards Maurice Taylor and Juwan Howard to the Boston Celtics for Paul Pierce and a future 1st round draft pick earlier today.

Wesley played for the Hornets since the 1997-98 season, compiling averages of 14.7 points and 4.6 assists. He is the franchise's career leader in games started and ranks in the top three in 12 other categories. Maurice Taylor has averaged 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest while Juwan Howard has averages of 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds.

``Maurice, David and Juwan are going to fit well into our system and should be able to help us with their offensive skills,'' Celtics general manager Allan Bristow said in a statement.

``We're optimistic that the addition of these three players and the return of some of our injured players will give us a great boost on the court.''

Taylor, an 8 year veteran who plays both small and power forward, holds career averages of 13.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists. The 6-foot-10 journeyman has spent time with Los Angeles and Houston.

first of all yao and tmac dont score 25 each every night and that still wouldnt be enough to win. the rockets need that 3rd scorer to take some of the pressure off the two main scorers that should be a no brainer. you cant win with just those two. and yes the rockets do need a pf thats already been said

By the fourth quarter I was screaming at him and saying how his team mates were nothing but scrubs, that they are WNBA caliber and such! I guess it said some good about his character though. He never even acknowledged me saying stuff to him, but as soon as a started telling him his teammates sucked he started getting upset and saying stuff back to me. :eek3dance

As it has been said before, a 3rd scorer is not all that necessary but it is very helpful in dominating the league. Kobe and Shaq didn't have a very good 3rd scorer but had a player step it up in a given game. Sometimes Fisher, sometimes George, sometimes Fox(when he played). The Rockets need that, not necessarily a 3rd scorer. They need somebody to step it up, even if it isn't JJ every night. They never have that though. Wesley will not do much better than JJ IMO but hopefully he does.
If somebody doesn't believe what I said, look at Philadelphia in their playoff years and their NBA Finals appearance. They made it with Allen Iverson carrying the load and everybody else doing their job and somebody providing points to help AI even if it was a different person every game. Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James were the primary scorers and helped their team out and were helped out by backup from more than just 2 other scorers.
A team with at least one high scorer and consistent points and play from his teammates>3 scorers with no help anyday of the year.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It's pretty hard to miss dunks, so of course a big dominant man is going to make most of his field goals when he's going straight to the basket.
