yup. you are correct. just need a reputable shop to do so, because a transmission swap is outta my league.

what needs to be done again?? auto to manual?? and you have ALL the parts??oh, one more thing, you'd have to recode the whole car to let it know you have a different transmission, specially the DME, and EWS, and don't forget the KOMBI.

Your in for a nightmare. BMW's do not like to be messed with, and I have never seen anywhere that the GT1 or DIS can reprogram the DME to not look for the EGS. I suppose if you found the right software version to program it with it might work, but that is gonna be a dealer only, and I know for sure that most wouldnt wanna touch it.

BMW's are too integrated when it comes to all there systems for this to be nice & easy.

dude, this thread is 11 months old. why the heck did you bring this thread back to life?

also, Loud_TIGER won't be needing a transmission swap anymore. he had an e36 auto 318i but now he has an e36 5spd ///M3.

i would say take it to BEMER on richmond which is my aunt's brothers shop but they will get you good on price... i have to be honest they are very expensive and pretty much the biggest Bmw maintenance store in houston ... i dont think they do performance job but engine and tranny swap is daily work for them
