any helmet that is SNELL 2000 certified. i highly recommend NOT using a motorcycle helmet as a car helmet. they are extremely different in construction, and using a motorcycle helmet while in a car wreck can be extremely dangerous to you.

Well, to be honest, Donnell's right about getting the proper helmet for the proper job but the fact of the matter is automotive racing helmets can be a lot more expensive than motorcycle helmets. For practice events I think using a motorcycle helmet is fine since the likelyhood of an accident is small. However, if you plan to drive competatively you should invest in an automotive helmet which have a fire resistant liner of some sort. Helmets are classified by type and certification year. For example, M or SA (motorcyle or special application) and 95 or 2000. You dont want to get anything before snell 95 and I highly recommend getting snell 2000 certified helmets as helmets do expire.

The only danger is fire.. at that point the cotton clothing you are wearing is a greater danger than the helmet. Both have shells built to handle impacts, the main difference is the Nomex liner.

If they were so dangerous then they wouldn't be allowed in SCCA/NASA sponsored events.

SA certified helmets have Nomex liners and are certified for just about any usage apart from riding a motorcycle.

M certified helmets have no liner and are certified for riding because they have a much larger field of vision.

I'd suggest an SA cert for motorsports, but an M cert will help you to see out of the helmet as well as breathability.

not only the liner. shell construction is a lot different. compare the weights of a motorcycle helmet compared to a car helmet. BIG difference. motorcycle helmets are designed to handle very specific types of abuse. car helmets are designed structurally different, because they handle a completely different set of abuse. while yes, they will both protect your head, you run a much higher chance of breaking your neck wearing a motorcycle helmet in a car. look it up, there's been tests, and real world examples. there's a reason why motorcycle helmets aren't allowed in any major racing series.

but to answer your specific question, i'd pass on that helmet. fulmer's aren't even good motorcycle helmets, let alone good for a car. i don't think any of them are snell certified either. a must for any sanctioned scca event.
