ya it was but dont think that i am going to do the 300zx uprights and just do the rear hubs and s14 front spindal

Yeah, I didn't care for that either.. I just used S14 rears and Attain S13 5-lug conversion front hubs.. so I could keep my Cusco's without drilling into them or changing the lower arm.

If you have coilovers, and can change the lower mount to the 300zx mounts, the aluminum upright is a very worthwhile upgrade... You lose 16 lbs of unsprung weight... which is like losing 64 lbs worth of interior as far as handling is concerned(I think 1 lb unsprung = 4 lbs sprung, someone correct me if i'm wrong)

In the rear it will have less of an effect and the upright itself isn't 100% unsprung IIRC. Should help remove some wheel hop if anything. And it's 6 lbs. per side so more like 12 lbs. which is still nice.

so its pretty easy to do the conversion and since i want to do the 300zx brakes are the autozone calipers ok to use and for the rear is it easier to do the s14 or 300zx rear brakes

300zx calipers are 300zx calipers. All of the different brands you can purchase from Autozone, Orielly, etc... are refurbished Z calipers.
You can stick to 4 lug even if you go Z calipers. However, the 240sx stock alloys (91-94) will only fit over the 26mm calipers (only avalible on the 1990 n/a 300zx). If you get the 30mms (any other year or style of 300z) you are going to need spacers with stock 4 lug alloys or yeah, just do the 5 lug conversion and get some 300zx rims.
There's a sh*tload of information on this swap and it's variations on the web. I suggest viewing www.freshalloy.com forums if purchasing a 240sx is even an itch in the back of your mind. If you own one and don't frequent there, you need to start.
initial what?

from what i have been told if u do the z rear brakes also your gonna need to get a z master cylinder.

Nope. You're going to have a hella squishy brake pedal but you won't "have" to switch MCs. Sport Compact Car's project silvia ran with brembo brakes designed for Ferrari's (or was it Porsche?) up front and the rear ran on 300zx stock calipers. They were able to drive it just fine without the proper MC. I've seen other people do this with 26mm Z brakes up front and Z brakes in the rear. The pedal feels like it's attached to playdough but the car is still drive-able.
Oh yeah, and kiss your e-brake goodbye. Rear Z brakes have a tiny built in drum brake design that fits in the stock rotor. This helps prevent warpage while the parking brake is set.

S14 rear calipers are the same as S13 rear calipers. :)
Actually, the fronts are the same, too.
In the rear, all you need to do is have an s14 hub pressed in, go to Autozone and buy a rear S14 rotor and slap that badboy on. It "will" fit. Trust me.

You don't have to lose your ebrake by converting the rears to Z32, R32, Etc..
It runs off the drum system as mentioned, but there is a kit that adapts the S13 e-brake cable to the leads for the Z32/R32 e-brake. Or you can custom fab the leads.. Combine the Z one with the 240s.. Lil' bit of work.. decent pay off.
Heres a decent reference for ya.

Yeah, you can rig the brakes to work. But if you're just tossing brakes on and don't have time or a kit to do so it can be a pain. Guess I should have worded it differently.

I've heard that the conversion is worth it. Honestly, I don't see why other than for aesthetic reasons.
All the drift cars (pro-am) have the conversion, but I really don't see why it's necessary. You can get brake makers and wheel makers to make custom wheels for this car if you need specific patterns and specifications.

They run it for the better ebrake, they also usually run Endless or Project Mu shoes in the back too.

what about a s14 5 lug conv. my friend just bought a kouki and it's 4 lug. i'm not sure what is needed for an s14. i would think that it's pretty easy and not that many parts would be needed.
