That is where many people with good causes fuck up. They see that nobody responds to the cause they are bringing light on and assume that it is not a valid cause or point. I think that there is big, massive, corruption in the sport of Drifting. I mean it always was a "show" sport, but people took time to learn it and took pride in learning it. The best drifters in the world are people that have not even heard of it. You may think "what the hell does that mean". Take the first episode of Inital D (sp?) where he is a great drifter but does not even know about the sport. Take peope that love to race but have a hard time going around corners so they start to slide around them to go faster. That is real drifting, doing it because you love it, not because you are getting payed or you might win money, or prizes.

That has nothing to do with this thread, leave it out of here. If you have a problem with mispelling, take it to PM.

your dumb INITIAL D ISNT REAL (I know its shocking) nobody drifts with out knowing what they are doing. And I think the best drifters in the world arent people that havent heard of drifting I think the best drifters in the world are people that study and practice and know exactaly what there doing not just some red neck doing donuts in a mustang.

I've seen rednecks driving like idiots in old camaro's that put some of Japans' best to shame, I'm sorry. It only became a "sport" when it became syndicated (if that's the correct deffinition), perhaps when it became more mainstream. Unfortunately, drift is a RWD thing for the most part, although i've seen FWD cars do some stuff too.

I dunno, every redneck i know that "drifted all the time" could do nothign more than maybe a 1st gear donut or punch the gas in 2nd and by an act of God slide for maybe 30 feet on corner exit. when i showed them all up with my 130rwhp stock 240sx with 3rd gear drift into a 2nd gear drift on a corner they all shutup. rednecks saying they can drift most the time is nothing more than rednecks who are ignorant to drift vs powerslide. There isa reason they arent all building a rollcage and entering Formula Drift.
btw this was in north zulch texas, so yes they were rednecks (stock 5.0 sn95 that would "spin thru 4th gear") they also thought my 240 was "fast"
this is mikespeed again.

its been a "sport" for 15 years. and just because you can spin the rear wheels doesnt make you a good drifter.

Read that article and tell me about rednecks and drifting... ;)
of course, in the article, you can substitute 'drifting' for 'rally'...
That damn jeremy hart (yes, the speedvision guy) made it sound like all americans are a bunch of back woods redneck dumb asses, and don't know shit about rally... LOL

drifting is not fishtailing.
somehow every idiot and their mom thinks that drifting involves kicking the tail out and thats it.
drifting is a form of stunt driving. It is a sport in the same way that monster truck rallies and dirtbikes are.
It just so happens that a lot of techniques from racing come very much in handy when drifting.
Drifting CAN be faster than the normal line through corners given street tires and unsure terrain.
It was also occasionaly used in NASCAR a long time ago as a method of blocking your opponent from passing you. It has since been banned from most racing series.
I just thnk it's funny that somehow the average joe thinks ass sliding and drifting are the same thing here. Just shows the inferiority of the driver education systems in this country I suppose?

one of the best answers i've read except i wouldn't have added the red neck part....i think a lot of people were interested in drifting after watching initial d but what people have to remember that it's a cartoon so things are exageratted
