im a noob to all of this.

what are the most important aspects that one needs to prepare in order to have a "good" drift car?

Could i just take my stock g35 out there and have a good drift car?

I would think you would need some fairly wicked camber in the rear with as big a rear sway bar that you can find. That should make it fairly easy to spin the tires and get the rear end to rotate around.

but iono...thats where I would start if I had a RWD Dorifto Macheen :thumb:

Oh, I guess I should reply. :)

As a novice one could actually go out with a bone stock car with open diff and learn how to drift. To become a good drifter you should first improve the driver then improve the car as you get better. It is actually easier to drift with a stock suspension. The body roll will give you more time to react to transitions. As you get better you will want to build your car to be set up much like an autocross or a track car. Too much oversteer built into a car's suspension will make the car to twitchy in mid-slide making it difficult to control. I actually dial in a bit of understeer to make the rear end more controlable. In fact, it is slightly softer than my autocross setup.

lol, i'm actually watching drift bible right now, haha.

stock suspension also allows for more graceful weight transfer when the driver isn't the smoothest, it takes out some of the jerks in the driving, and not only makes the drift look cooler, but easier to control. pretty much same thing john just said, just expanded on one aspect of it a little.

it also makes the drift look REALLY REALLY REALLY ugly.

if you guys like Drift Bible, check out the CWest DVD, Mission Drift. its got plenty of experience and way better drivers. It also has more to deal with the car instead showing you "proper" techniques on a bunch of different cars quickly.

Want a good alignment setup? Alex Pfeiffer's general settings...

This is Alignment Setup BTW

...a basic setup is -2F, -1.5R camber, 0 F, 1/8th R toe.

is gassing an RWD vehicle into a hard turn really considered drifting? drifting = 4 wheels with no traction, no?

theres tons of other drifters that would hand Keichii his ass on a silver platter. hes the self-stlyed "drift king", just like michael jackson calls himself the "king of pop". dont believe everything that you hear.

Matt.

What works for one driver, one car doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for another driver, especially with a different car.

That's another thing that Alex mentioned... :)

That if you know what you're doing, you already know what settings that you want. :)

That's why I included the "Basic" setup.

i guess im the only person who has watched both and is able to make a valid opinion? especially when its the instructions of one driver in 3 different cars compared with team CWest/DRFT using 8 other cars?

or we can just google stuff.

no, i've watched both, i'm not saying your wrong in any way. just saying that tsuchiya has had more accomplishments than you stated. i added the quotes because i thought it was funny how you like taniguchi more than tsuchiya, when taniguchi learned from tsuchiya.

i don't have an opinion on who's better, they're all better than me, so i don't feel i can criticize any of them.

IMO, KT is an excellent drifter and racer and back in his prime he was the undisputed drift king but he's getting on in years and at the same time the sport has progressed to higher levels. I think he could still be competative in the D1GP but I dont think he's got enough to be a season champion.

As far as the Drift Bible is concerned, before I started drifting I watched it and it didnt make any sense to me. However, once I went out and did some practicing I watched the Bible again and a lot of it made much more sense. It's definitely meant to help at the beginner level but it really wont help unless you go out and try it first. So get out there and drive!

On a final note, suspension settings will vary from person to person. You won't appreciate how .5 degrees of negative camber will affect the car unless you know how the car feels in the first place. Basically, what I'm saying is that just drive with whatever setting you have. A pre-set baseline setting won't magically allow you to become a better drifter. By the time you understand how camber, toe, and caster affect a car you'll probably understand how you want it set in the first place.

yeah, i know, i've seen it. lot of good techniques in it. but it's more of a rivalry than them actually being better than him.

Those guy are great. But I think that people put KT higher than other drivers because of his longer career and experience. Do I think he is the best driver from Japan? Hell no. But I do feel that he is one of the best, an if it came down to it, I'd pick KT to learn from just because of his "senority" in the racing world. :thumb:
