Eventhough Clinton won........what were some disadvantages Clinton had leading up to the Election?

Why did Bush Sr. lose?

And most of all.........why did Ross Perot get almost 20% of the popular vote?

Discuss.........

perot captured alot of the vote cause he was seemingly a smart businessman. and with all the focus on the deficit being trillions of dollars, it seemed to be the smart move to vote for perot.

Clinton's disadvantages: He was seen as a womanizer who had managed to get out of the draft.

Bush Sr. lost because the economy was the deciding factor that year. Geroge Sr was seen as not being able to relate to the average voter, Clinton proclaimed to "feel their pain."

Ross Perot got those votes because some people who hadn't voted in a long time, first-time voters, and angry conservatives voted for him. Many saw Bush as not conservative enough and not focused enough on the weak economy. Those who were concerned about the economy and jobs, and who felt that Clinton was too liberal or too inexperienced, voted for Perot.

Clinton's main disadvantage was that he had no real experience.

Bush Sr was a great president IMO and lost because he raised taxes.

Perot got the bigot/old people vote by screaming about how Mexico was taking our jobs.

perot got alot of the vote because he presented his plans in plain english, he used alot of diagrams and charts to dumb his ideas down for the common joe.

I have to agree with Tsiger Bush S. lost because he told everyone he would not raise taxes, and then did. Clinton won because he was a great talker, simple as that.

Yeah...Bush 41 got blamed for a glitch in the economy, but had he been able to remain in office, the credit would have gone to him...

So it's kind of interesting how Clinton gets handed a rising economy and receives the credit...Then at the end of his term, he hands Bush a declining economy, and Bush 43 gets the credit for that.

But we all know that there exist factors in the economy that go beyond the President's policies.

Yeah, but a President's actions can affect the stock market......the stock market can affect the economy.

An administration's spending habits can affect the economy as well.

Based on your example, we should have suffered a bad economy from 96-00.

Yeah, Clinton may have been handed a rising economy....but his ability to maintain it for so long is what people are talking about.

The economy doesn't work like that. Anything Bush did would have been wiped clean by 93-QIV; Clinton had a brand new group of economic advisors, etc.
