anyone knows about Darton's sleeves?!?!

i got an email form darton sales dept saying that each sleeve cost $48.95..

4 darton sleeves = $200
1 block guard = $120

which of the two would be more benefitial in the short/long run on a boosted d16 ?!?

If I were in your position, I wouldn't sleeve that D16. I would save up and get a B or H series motor, and sleeve that. :thumb:

Blockguards do some pretty good work though. Look at Shami's car. The only bottom end modification is a blockguard, and she runs mid 11's. :blue:

im staying with my D16.. Its allready boosted plus i got waiting to be installed:

forged crowers rods
srp pistons
performance clutch
8lb flywheel.

darton sleeves are $211.35 shipped... how much would it cost to install those sleeves and were?

im only asking for darton's performance, crafmanship, etc.. any b or h comments just keep it aside this is not a question of what motor is better or what not. :duh:

I honestly couldn't give you a good estimate for an install, but PM TVB96. He owns Lightspeed and could give you a good estimate. I'm sure that with forged internals, a blockguard, and the proper fuel system setup/tuning, you could make some good power for a D Series motor. :thumb:

i though block guards should be welded to the block in order to be of any use....

i was just told that they dont 'need' to be welded in order to work..

.. ?!? .. .

Blockguards just go into the waterjackets between the sleeve and the actual block. There is no welding necessary. Some shaving of the blockguard might be necessary though.

$300 is NOT too much for a clutch/flywheel install. That's an 8 hour job, you know. MUCH easier said that done.

$250 for rods and pistons isn't too much either. Once again, that install can make or break your motor. Your NEED it done right, and the 250 you pay is worth EVERY cent of it.

that's a 2 hour job for changing out clutch and flywheel if you know what you are doing. a normal price though.

250 for installing rods and pistons is a good price also, IMO.

I'm kinda interested in who can resleeve a motor. Where do you guys get your motors resleeved?

good luck finding a machine shop that will sleeve a block in Houston. Last time I checked the only person that would do it, screwed it up several times, and is now in hiding. You're better off sending the block to Darton and having them do it there. If they still do that. If not, get some Golden Eagle or AEBS sleeves. Those are better anyways.

Good Luck with the build up.

im thinking on using just a block guard since i wont be boosting over 14psi (from a 14g) and will be well tunned..

everyone except donnell forgot to mention WHO IS GONNA PUT THE SLEEVES IN THAT BLOCK?!!!!:hit: :hit: :hit:

darton sleeves need to be actually machined in..machine shop. if you are serious , im willing to get your block to a great machine shop that has experience w/ sleeve installation on HONDAS!

otherwise contact me for your other sleeving options:
golden eagle
benson..who uses darton
ARI sleeve
rs machine...my next sleeve:thumb:
la sleeve

basically youll end up payn around 6-700 for sleeves installed....youll end up payn more if u just have sleeves and take it somewhere else to get installed. contact me if your serious though.

and if you want a motor that will actually make power and not blow up, shoot me a PM. i have some pretty good connections around, and i'm sure we can fix you up with something...those that know me, will vouch for that.

Go with golden eagle's open deck sleeves because the d-series motors have a history of over heating under boost. Don't put in a block guard because this will restrick the coolant flow because the d-series need all the cooling they can get.
But if you do decide to get a block guard than get it welded on at a machine shop. Make sure to get a bigger radiator and that your cooling system is up to par.
good luck
